Work in Progress Wednesday

I think the embellishing is finished on this stocking.  This stocking is for my granddaughter.  I have included a piece of fabric from my Mom and Dad's clothing.  That makes it special to me but probably not to my granddaughter.  She has never met them.  I think it is more important that I include fabric from my husband and myself.  I don't know why I didn't think of that sooner!  I am considering doing that for the back of the stocking which I had intended to do just plain, one fabric.

Is your granddaughter old enough to know the significance of your fabric choices, or still very young? I'm sure she will be interested to know the story behind her special Christmas stocking when she is older.

I agree, you should add some fabric from things you, your husband, and your granddaughter's parents have worn, but to have even older things will be appreciated later on in life. Ask your daughter to keep the stocking safe until your granddaughter is old enough (in her 20s?) to really appreciate her roots.

I think including both sets, front and back, is a lovely idea. Someday she'll treasure it.
