What was growing up in your hometown like?
I find these sorts of questions rather difficult. I am not one to spend time looking back at my past. I know what happened, I have dealt with most of the unpleasantness and therefore don't find it all that interesting. The future is full of possibilities and I would rather time travel to the future.
But here is a brief history. I grew up with a park across the street from our house and loved going there. There were the typical swings and monkey bars. There was also a creek that ran through it and a small forested area. I loved finding raspberries there. There was also a pool where I took swimming lessons in the summer. I loved that the library parked a bookmobile there every three weeks. Back then there was only the main branch of the library downtown. Interesting but not surprising that books and nature are my favourite memories.
I love having girlfriends! I had a marvelous day with two of them this week. We went to the Royal Botanical Gardens to see the Alice in Bloomland show. It was full of gorgeous orchids and fun Alice in Wonderland vignettes. What a delightful way to spend time with friends!
the memory of your park is good. A place you felt safe, and remembering where we came from is different from dwelling in the past right? Don't want to dally back then but just knowing there were moments of peace that helped us to survive is a good thing to me. I like the thought of your park. I'd love to go to the display of flower sculptures.... LOVELY! Thanks for sharing your life with us, That hat!!!!
ReplyDeleteI forgot all about the prompt this week! Your growing up experience in your hometown sounds pretty nice. I love seeing your pictures!
ReplyDeleteI always loved the bookmobile, too! The display at the botanical gardens looks amazing. And especially to go with friends - lovely!
ReplyDeleteLove that Cheshire cat!
ReplyDeleteI love when a theme, like Alice in Wonderland, is used to create new things. The flower displays look fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI agree it is a good idea to look forward rather than back into the past. However, it is often by looking at what happened in our childhood or youth that we can understand how we feel today. We need both valleys and hills to appreciate the good things in life. Without the comparison, it is easy to take our fortunes for granted.
Treasure your friends and have many more happy outings with them.
