Work in Progress Wednesday


 I used to link up with a stitching blog for Work in Progress Wednesday.  I guess that is why I feel that my Wednesday post should always be about stitching.  But I don't always have stitching progress to blog about on Wednesdays.  There are times when I am spending my time with mixed media and my art journals.

This week, I have been playing around with drawing with my left hand.  These drawings were done with a marker and then I added water to them to make the marker bleed.  I love them.  I suppose that is because my expectations are very low when drawing with my nondominant hand.  Still, you can tell what these drawings represent.  Or at least I can.  

I love their imperfection.  Today I was thinking about perfection.  I have known from a very young age that I am incapable of perfection.  What a lovely and freeing way of being!  I never let the fear of something not being perfect stop me.  Now, for sure, I can be critical of myself, my work but I get over it and still keep creating!  Such a joy!

    What is 'perfect'? Well, it is a standard set by someone., ourselves or others. When several people set that standard, we cannot tell what 'perfect' really is. For example, an OS figure skating performance is judged by several judges because they all have different opinions of what the standard of 'perfect' is. Therefore, other people's standard of 'perfect' is almost impossible to achieve. So why bother? I'm not talking about safety standards or measurement where 'perfect' is an important issue, but art. Art should be free from 'perfect' or at least only the artists opinion of what 'perfect' is. You are lucky to be free of this pressure.

Slow Stitching Sunday

 How did it get to be December!  I really meant to fill in the big gaps in my November slice!  I still might.  We will see how it goes.  I got a lot of other stitching done in November so I guess that distracted me from this project.  There is only one slice left to stitch on this project and I find myself jumping ahead to next year. I wonder if I want to do another monthly project like this for next year.  I like having a monthly project.  I might consider doing a mixed-media instead of stitching.  Not that I couldn't incorporate some stitching into that though.  I have no clear idea at this point and that's okay.  I have to get through the holidays!   I am linking to https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/

Slow Stitching Sunday

 I enjoyed stitching my September slice.  I got out my book by Carole Samples Treasury of Crazy Quilt Stithes.  It has wonderful combinations of stitches.  I have had this book for years and never properly used it.  It uses basic stitches in interesting combinations. So, I didn't really learn any new stitches but I did enjoy combining stitches in new ways.  I might find that more helpful in the long wrong.   The weather has still been cooperative for stitching outside.  The week ahead looks good too.  I might get a jump start on my October slice.  It is sad to think about putting away the deck furniture but it can wait at least a week.
