Work in Progress Wednesday

Well, maybe this isn't going to be as interesting as I thought!  It is the straight line of the fibres that is bothering me.  I will definitely not be stitching them down in a straight line!  It has been a while since I worked on a scroll.  I find scrolls to be so relaxing.  I went through my magnificent stash of fibres and picked out some to stitch down.

I must play with them a bit.  Maybe I could add knots to them.  Maybe I could separate the bundle in a few places.  Maybe I could use beads to couch the fibres down.

All of these fabric squares were painted, printed, and otherwise decorated by me. There is always a certain amount of pleasure in using my own fabrics!

Comments

  1. The fabric and colours are fabulous.
If you put in Running Stitch along some sections of the edges and pulled the thread, basically gathering the edge here and there, you would get a less straight line for the whole scroll.
For the section of raw edges in the middle, I would couch down some of them, if I wanted more movement there.
Then there are knots, and of course, beads, maybe tassels or garlands of beads...

  2. I'm interested in stitching a scroll, but don't know where to start. Do you first sew scraps of fabric to a batting piece and then add embellishments, like the long fibers in your piece above? I'm sure you'll figure out what to add to make this scroll fit your vision for it!
