Princess Bubbles Creates

This is the cover of a new journal I am making.  I used a padded mailing envelop as the base.  I machine stitched different animal print fabrics to both sides of the envelop.  I think this makes a great cover and I really enjoyed making it. 

We made these two small journals in Sandra's workshop yesterday.  The orange one is a simple pamphlet stitch.  The other a concertina journal.  They were quick and easy to make as Sandra had all the paper cut and folded for us.  We just had to join or stitch it together.  Unfortunately I did not get my larger journal stitched together.  I started to but it was too fiddly. I will have be in the proper frame of mind to mind to accomplish that task.

I didn't have the time or the patience to do the back cover the same way I did the front cover.  I did some needle felting and then attached it to the plastic canvas.  Now I am ready for the final workshop tomorrow.  I'm sad that the workshops are finished.  They have been so much fun!  I will post pictures of the completed journal in a day or two.

I really like it!  The picture is actually a bit washed out.  The colors are more vibrant than the picture is showing.  I don't think there is time to do the same for the back cover so possibly I will do some needle felting and attach it to the plastic canvas.  That's the plan unless I come up with a better idea.

I have to say that it is not often that I learn new things at a workshop.  That probably sounds arrogant.  I don't mean it to.   I am making a journal cover with plastic canvas.  I have never worked with plastic canvas before this.  I am stitching small pieces of fabric to the canvas.  I really like the look but it is a bit tedious and time consuming.  I will persevere though as I really want to get it finished for the next workshop with\Sandra.  We will be binding our journals together and I really need to have a cover finished.

I started by making the base fabric.  It has silk, dryer sheet, fancy yarns, threads, sheer fabric, hand painted fabric,fancy fabrics, glitter and paper in it.  I used a watered down glue to hold it all together.  I cut this piece from the larger piece that I created.  It's hard to tell but there are some gaps and holes in this piece that I quite like. I think the beading adds nicely to it.  I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was not difficult to to needle through this fabric.

I don't know why I didn't think of the beads yesterday.  I am glad I thought of it today though.  I think they make the cover better.
