Princess Bubbles Creates

  I like that I have a solo show of my mandalas at the end of the year.  I like that there is a goal for me to work towards.  When first discussing this show I was expecting to be using a smaller space and therefore thinking that I would only be showing my stitched mandala.  I like that they are open to me including my paper mandalas now that I have been offered such a large space. I have been considering how I would make that work.  The lower image is how I am envisioning the installation.  I like that my son Jeremy was able to create that image for me.  He is so talented and clever.  It will be approximately 10 feet by 10 feet. I like creating mandalas and have close to 400 that will go into this installation.  That number is just the loose mandalas and doesn't include the ones done in journals and altered books!  That's a lot of mandalas!  I guess my need for meditation and peace is pretty strong!  A while ago I signed up to participate in a collaborative art project.  Recipes for Sustainability is the title of the project.  I was mailed a 4x6 recipe card and directed to create something with no pressure.  I decided to do a small weaving with fabric scraps many of which are silk.  I have stitched it all together and adhered the piece to the recipe card.  Now I just need to pop it in the mail.  Each participant will receive a copy of everyone's recipe card.  I can't wait to see what everyone else creates.  I will have to be patient though as that won't happen until the end of the year.   It is kind of interesting that I am working with recipe cards a lot lately.  I took a bit of break from the Index Card a Day challenge though.  The prompts weren't super interesting to me and I didn't have any extra time for it.  I am hoping to get back into it this week.

  Here is an update on my Purple Reign challenge piece.  I have stitched on 192 Swarovski crystal beads.  I got an amazing deal on the beads at a yard sale I took my granddaughter to!  For some reason, I feel it is important to use 200 of these beads.  I only need to find a place for 8 more.  That won't be a problem.  I also have some freshwater pearls that I am considering using.    Stitching outside with the sunshine makes the crystals shine like diamonds.  It is a complete joy for me.   I plan to title this piece 'I am Royal' and find more high-end materials to use.  I have some real gold leaf that I would like to use.  I am not sure if it is the right choice esthetically though.  If I don't use it on this mandala I will find another to use it on.  I have had the gold leaf for many years and it is about time to use it!  This mandala was mainly finished but I used a hoop that would be difficult to hang.  It was the right size and readily available so it made sense at the time.  I really like this mandala so I want to include it in my upcoming show.  What to do?  I knew the solution had to be a simple one.  I also knew I had more of those blocks that were far from perfect.  I decided to put one of those blocks into a larger hoop.  Mounting the smaller hooped mandala onto that worked well.  It hides the major imperfection in the block and adds interest.  Now it will hang easily.  I think that is number 41 completely finished!  I am happy to participate in I Like again today.  My thanks to Leanna at  https://lapaylor.blogspot.com/  for hosting and allowing me to participate! I like kaleidoscopes.  Well, anything round really.  I like using Kaleidoscope Kreator to manipulate photos. The one above was created using a photo of a mass of threads.  I love it! I like sunshine and warm weather.  I had such a lovely two-hour walk with a friend this week.  We had missed going out together the last couple of weeks.  We normally walk together every week.  It was good to get back into a regular walk together.  The weather cooperated, so lovely. I like being able to see beauty no matter where I am.  I am mostly a positive person so finding beauty is not difficult for me. I like quiet time.  I like that I am brave/strong enough to say no to encroachment on my time when I am feeling already busy enough.  

 Working with these quilt pieces is a joy and a challenge.  I have mentioned my inability to sew straight so my decision to fuse these pieces makes sense.  Right?  Well even fusing them was not easy for me.  This is as good as it gets.   I am okay with it.  I love the cacophony of colour.  Now I must ponder what is next.  This is meant to be a mandala for my upcoming show.  I was thinking of treating it like a crazy quilt and embellishing the seams.  That might be overload though.  I have also been considering stitching fancy stitches with my machine.  Possibly with just black thread.  Puzzling, puzzling.  At least I know what I am doing with other pieces and this can just perk for a while.

 This Dresden plate block was inherited and I decided to treat it as a crazy quilt.  I stitched it years ago but was never quite happy with it.  I made the design decision to use only plain cotton threads in keeping with the vintage fabrics.  No sparkle, hmm what was I thinking?  But more than that there were a few seams that were just not right.  I really hate to pick out stitching but I decided to bite the bullet.  This piece works as a mandala and can be included in my show but I have to be happy with it.  Out came the ugly stitches.  In came some metallic thread.  So much better.  Now to address the doily in the centre.  I like it but there is too much white for me.  I will consider how to rectify that.
