Work in Progress Wednesday

My granddaughter asked me to create a mandala for her.  She picked out some old jewellery for me to use.  I have some of those pieces stitched down.  I won't be able to use all of them.  Now to figure out the stitching that will pull this all together.   I am delighted that my granddaughter would ask me for a piece of my art.  I am truly honoured!  I am happy to do this for her.

Mandala Monday

Well, this was some wild and crazy fun.  Mostly all of my art is fun for me.  This mandala was a practice in being loose and free.  Don't we all want to feel that way at times?  I have been throwing my hat into the ring for so many art submissions lately.  Mostly they have come back with the thanks but no thanks response.  I had two in one week last week.  Not fun.   After whining and complaining about my no-good rotten week (other things also went wrong) I have pulled up my bootstraps.  I will not give up, never surrender, never say die.  It just isn't in me even though there are times when I wonder why bother.  Then I remember that this is a joyful pursuit.  I remember.

Slow Stitching Sunday

I started this piece ages ago.  I had thought it was finished but I am allowed to change my mind.  I have decided it needs more flowers.  I have happily been adding the impression of flowers with mainly silk threads.  The ones that seem too good to use.  Isn't that silly?  Do I really want those threads to end up at a thrift store someday because I didn't use them?  No. Stitching with those beautiful silk threads on my own hand-dyed silk fabric is a pleasure.  I look forward to creating this garden especially now that winter is encroaching.  Working on something cheerful certainly helps to pass the time! Lee Anna  and the gang are discussing the following what about ghosts or paranormal? Have you ever had an encounter with a spirit, seen one, had a family member show up after they passed to spirit form on their way to Heaven? Known when someone passed before being told? do you ever go on ghost tours ? Do you know anyone who says they've had an encounter with one passed on? does it scare you to think about? I have never done a ghost tour.  That sort of thing doesn't scare me.  I have spent a fair amount of time taking photographs in cemeteries.  There is a lot of beauty there.  I should have found one of those photos for this post. The night Princess Diana died I had a dream about her dying.  That was kind of weird.  I am not what I would call a Royal watcher.  When I awoke and heard the news I wasn't at all surprised.   Today is a good day to think about something good.  This week has not been stellar.  To top it off our dog go...

Work in Progress Wednesday

This piece has been languishing in my studio for too long.  It started its life as a quilt block stitched by my husband's aunt.  She was dear to me and I was honoured to inherit her unfinished projects.  I added some layers of lace and paint being careful to not obliterate her stitching.  It became far too dark for my liking.   What to do?  I have stencilled on some flowers and added paint in other areas.  It is definitely getting closer to my liking.  I would like to be able to add some hand stitching to it.  However, all the layers would make that absolutely miserable.  Pass.  Stitching needs to be a pleasure.   I love all the texture on this.  I used some oil pastels to make some of it stand out.  This is truly a mixed-media piece.  I wonder if Aunt Pat would like it.  We will see where it goes from here.

Mandala Monday

I am working on a mandala.  I like the way this one is coming along.  It reminds me of a stained glass rose window.  I am not quite sure what comes next for this one.  It may have to sit and perk for a bit.

Slow Stitching Sunday

I haven't done much stitching this week.  I did take my stitching along in the car yesterday but did not put in one stitch.  The drive was a different route than usual.  It was stunning.  The fall leaves were in their glory.  I had to enjoy them.  It seems rather late in the year to still have such good colour! I did manage to work on this floofy book page though.  I added the funky bead and love how the pink has added interest.  I made the funky bead so many years ago.  I have a small stash of those beads and these 'pages' seem to be a good place to use them.   Today should be a good day for stitching as there are no plans.  I am linking to https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/
