Take a stitch Tuesday

Image
What a mess!  I should probably be embarrassed to show such a feeble attempt at Kikos Flower.  I struggled with this one.  The instructions that Sharon B posted at  http://pintangle.com/2014/09/30/take-a-stitch-tuesday-132-kikos-flower/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Pintanglecom+%28pintangle.com%29  simply did not make sense to me.  I read them and decided I should have a nap!  Not something I do very often but it is that kind of day.  I came back to the instructions with fresher eyes but I still didn't get it.  I searched for some other instructions but could not find any.  I did find  http://letslearnembroidery.blogspot.ca/2011/04/frilled-buttonhole-stitch.html  and it was close enough that I got it. I am not embarrassed to post my struggles with this stitch.  It is helpful to know when others struggle with something.  Plus I am not addicted to perfection.  It is the learning process that I enjoy and I am glad that I persisted with it even

I was playing around with my camera again.  I am so blessed to get to play.  It brings me a lot of joy.  I am not super excited about this image but it is kind of cool.  I definitely have to do some more exploring with this technique. This is my bead journal project for Sept.  I learned the beaded Herringbone stitch and incorporated it into this piece.  I think it turned out fairly well.  I enjoy the process.  The hours drift by so pleasantly when stitching. Sharon B at  http://pintangle.com/2014/09/23/take-a-stitch-tuesday-131-beaded-lock-stitch/  shares instructions for the Beaded Lock Stitch.  I am a sucker for beads so I love this stitch.  I used Petite Very Velvet thread by Rainbow Gallery.  It is fairly thick thread and I was delightfully surprised how easy it was to stitch with it.

I guess it is fairly obvious what this is.  Still I love the abstract quality of it!  I am linking with http://www.shinethedivinecreativityisaspiritualpractice.com/

Teaching again

I am excited and pleased to be teaching at the Kitchener Waterloo Art Gallery next month.  I will be teaching Introductory Crochet on October 26, 2014.  It is going to be a really fun class.  My classes are always fun, at least that is what my students say!  Come join me for a fun afternoon.    https://www.kwag.ca/en/programs/resources/kwag_communityflyer_fall2014.pdf

This is my start on my Sept. CQ block.  It is such a late start!  I really don't like being behind but I have to realize it is okay to take my time.  The whole summer was so draining and bouncing back immediately isn't realistic.  Actually, I should be grateful that I feel creative at all. This is the double lock stitch.  Instruction can be found at  http://pintangle.com/2014/09/09/take-a-stitch-tuesday-129-and-130-lock-and-double-lock-stitch/     It isn't very different from the Lock stitch other than it is done on both sides of the the straight stitches.  Mine looks a little messy.  I think a thicker thread would make it look nicer.

Oh what a joy it was to get my camera out this week.  It seems like forever since I have been able to play.  My sister bought me some wonderful sunflowers.  They have wilted and withered but I love the way they look.  The color is so vibrant! I added  a part of a doily to the upper right corner and some more beading to this piece.  I am thinking it is time to get moving on my Sept. CQ block even though there is a bit more that could be added to this block. I am linking with  http://pintangle.com/ and http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/

Take a stitch Tuesday

This is my first attempt at the Lock stitch.  Why do my stitches never look like Sharon's at  http://pintangle.com/  ?  I do highly value being an individual and rarely do I want to be just like someone else so I guess I should celebrate that my stitches are unique!  Yah that's it!  Yay!  Me!  I learned a new stitch today!

This is unusual for me.  I usually go for lots of color.  However, I love the sculptural quality to this.  It is my mother's old Bible.  It is clearly well loved and used.  It holds a special value for me now that she has passed.  I may have to import this photo into Photoshop to add some color to it. I am still working on my August CQ block.  It is close to being finished though.  I am not completely happy with the upper right corner but I do think I have a solution for that.  Hopefully I can finish this up fairly quickly so I can get started on my September block! This is my first attempt at the Interlaced Up and down buttonhole.  I wasn't particularly successful with it.  The substrate I worked on was miserable to use.  It is an interesting stitch and I definitely want to try it again.  My thanks to Sharon B at     http://pintangle.com/   for the instructions.
