Work in Progress

Image
I am pretty pleased with the way my selfie turned out.  Most members of the guild did one and we will have them on display in May at the St. Jacobs Quilt Festival.  At first I wasn't keen to do make one but now I am glad that I did.  I learned a lot. Ah, the curve of a petal, the texture of the pollen really draw me in.  To just sit and enjoy the simple beauty is like a meditation. I am linking with http://www.shinethedivinecreativityisaspiritualpractice.com/ and http://flowersfromtoday.blogspot.ca/ and http://macromonday2.blogspot.ca/

Crazy quilt block for April finished

Image
This is the fall themed block finished.  I am looking forward to putting all four blocks together.  I have some embroidered quilt blocks inherited from Aunt Pat and I am debating using them for the backing.  It is better than leaving them sitting in a drawer and I am really not sure what else to do with them. Bead Journal for April

Image
This bead journal has a fall theme.  It completes my season themed journals for this year.  As usual it incorporates a vintage earring.  I am excited to start working on my bead journal for May!  It always feels good to complete a project and it is exciting to start a new one.

This is the last block for a piece I plan to call Seasons-A Collaboration.  I have all the seams stitched but still need to add the bead journal to the center.  After I add the bead journal to the center then I can stitch all four blocks together.  I love making progress! Taking a stitch Tuesday

Image
This is a combination of  Cretan Stitch + Lazy Daisy Leaves + Lazy Daisy Flowers in silk ribbon.  A pleasing combination I learned from Valerie at  https://www.facebook.com/groups/335708879954649/?ref=bookmarks   Amazingly, she posts a seam treatment five times a week.  I can't keep up with her!

Colorful, co-ordinating layers

Image
Sometimes I just have to make stuff.  Stuff that doesn't necessarily have a predetermined purpose.  The other day I got out some used dryer sheets, cheese cloth and white thread.  All of it screaming to have color added to it.  I wet it all thoroughly and layered it and then applied the ink.  Now I have a luscious stack of color and texture.  Added bonus it all co-ordinate perfectly.

I have been adding some seam treatments to this.  I created the three blocks last year.  I have now put them together and where they are joined needs some decorating.  I am hoping I can get this completely finished before next month.  The St. Jacobs quilt show is coming and I need to have some fresh work to hang! Take a stitch

Image
I am really enjoying being a member of the facebook group Joyful Embellishments.  Five days a week Valerie posts a seam treatment.  I can't foresee being able to do all of them but one a week is possible.  We are working with the cretan stitch for April.  The repetition is definitely helping to sink it into my brain.

Life is better when I can take sometime to slow down and enjoy the flowers.  The curve of a petal, the intense color bring joy to my heart.   I am linking with http://www.shinethedivinecreativityisaspiritualpractice.com/ and http://macromonday2.blogspot.ca/ and http://flowersfromtoday.blogspot.ca/

Silk on silk

Image
I am having fun adding some simple running stitches to this piece.  It is hand painted silk and I am using silk threads to stitch.  It feels really good!  There is lots more stitching to do.

Work in Progress Wednesday

I am pleased with the progress I have made on my bead journal so far this month.  I have been busy revamping my studio space but still have found time to stitch.    I am going for a fall theme with this piece. I am linking with http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/

My version of Take a stitch Tuesday

Image
I joined a Facebook group called Joyful Embellishments   https://www.facebook.com/groups/335708879954649/?fref=nf Valerie Bothell posts a seam treatment each day!  For the month of April she is concentrating on the cretan stitch.  I know I have done it before but I had to look up instructions for it as I didn't remember how to do it.   http://embroidery.about.com/od/Embroidery-Stitches/ss/Cretan-Stitch.htm I used my new Valdani  cotton threads.  I am adding the stitches to my April CQ block.  Again, I am finding the patterned fabric a bit much but I will keep at it.

Oh how I love creating with my macro lens.  I can totally get lost in the beautiful details.  I am feeling a strong urge to print some of my macro flower images and hang them around my home.  One can never have too much beauty! Work in Progress Wednesday

I painted this silk with Inktense blocks and pencils.  Inktense is wonderful.  It doesn't change the hand of the silk at all.  I have quilted this piece and now it just needs some hand stitching.  That's my favorite part. I am linking with http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/
