Journal Prompt #35

Image
The prompt this week was to use a silhouette.  I was being a bit lazy and googled silhouette images.  When I saw this one it really grabbed me to so I printed it and added some watercolor for the background.  Not sure why I added that big strip of pink.  The quote I used says 'When you wish someone joy, you wish them peace, love, prosperity, happiness - all good things.'

I think it is done.  The waterfall is beaded to my liking.  Possibly there could be some beads added into the blue water part.  If  I do decide to add beads there it won't be a lot.  Moving onto the binding and backing. Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
Triple Chain Stitch  is the featured stitch on  Sharon B's   web site this week.  I decided that I want to try the Take a Stitch Tuesday stitches with beads.  It turned out okay, not great.  I only did one set as I was hoping it would look like a flower.  It sort of does.

Photo Cards

I am so pleased with the way my photo cards have turned out!  They will be available for sale at the  New Hamburg Studio Tour   I will be sharing space with three other artists.  Come see us on September 23, 2017. I am linking with http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.ca/

Journal Week #34

Image
The prompt this week was friendship.  At first, I was a bit stuck.  I have some wonderful friends.  What could I say about them?  But then I thought about man's best friend.  I know cliche but I am nuts about dogs.  Doing a journal page about the best dog ever, Farley, was a pleasure.  He took a piece of my heart when he passed almost two years ago.  I still miss him.

Last week I posted this butterfly for the green 'sinchie' challenge our guild is doing.  I received some terrific ideas and was encouraged to not give up on it.  I made a color copy of it and added some black, which is allowed according to the challenge rules.  So glad I made a copy of it to try this idea out!  I will definitely add some black details to the fabric piece.  I will also be adding some beads and sequins! Sharon B  challenges us to stitch the  Feather and Chain this week.  What a great combination.  Love it!  I decided to add beads to the Feather part.

Stitch a day project for August

Image
Yummy!  The goal is to stitch with only silk on this project.  Silk thread, silk ribbon, and silk fabric are so lovely to use!  Even the sound of the threads passing through the fabric is pleasing to me. Also, I have a delightful announcement to make.  I have been accepted as the Artist in Residence at the Ayr Library for 2018!  I am over the moon excited!  It is going to be so much fun! Journal Prompt #33

Image
The prompt this week was to be inspired by Morocco.  I created this page featuring a photo of my sweet husband and myself in Morocco (our honeymoon).  The photo was originally black and white but has deteriorated over time.  What a shame I put it into a frame that did not protect it properly, still I do like the sepia quality to it now.  We purchased the photo from a young photographer who made his living photographing tourists.  The background I created years ago by stitching together some interesting papers.  It is high time I used it!

Grand Guild of Fibre Artists is doing the six-inch block challenge again this year.  We call them 'sinchies' because they are quick and easy to create.  Well, really they are not all that quick!  Some of us put a great deal of work into them.  This year we are working with one color per month but we are allowed to add black or white.  This is what I have created so far.  Unfortunately, the background looks grey, it is green but I did capture the shine of the transfer foil on the butterfly.  The transfer foil looks rather patchy because of the glitter.  Honestly, I am not very happy with it so far.  More needs to be done to make it presentable.  Or I may need to start over.  We shall see. Reversed Buttonhole Bar  is the stitch  Sharon B  challenges us with this week.  I love this stitch.  I decided to try it with beads.  No surprise to anyone I am sure.

Bead Journal and such

Image
My bead journal for July is rather different for me.  I wrapped beads around a piece of driftwood that I found.  Eventually, it will be attached to an altered book.  The top photo is a mixed media fibre piece I created.  Lots of texture on this one!  I believe I will attach it to the cover of the same altered book.  I just haven't found the right book to alter as yet.  Eventually, this will all come together. Journal Week #32

Image
The prompt this week was to create a page with hearts.  I wasn't particularly inspired.  The background is paper that I dyed a number of years ago.  I like the way the paper turned out but just never got around to using it so it was about time!  I used Gelatos to create the heart.  The quote I used says 'Follow your passion, listen to your heart, make every day a celebration of your vision and soul.' R. Pickens

It is now August and my July crazy quilt project is not quite finished. I definitely had some lazy days in July.  I like the way this is coming along and I just don't feel like rushing it.  Not rushing is a big lesson for me to learn.  I am linking with http://www.quiltfabrication.com/ https://sewfreshquilts.blogspot.ca/ http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/ http://www.supermomnocape.com

Take a Stitch Tuesday

It feels good to be stitching with  Sharon B  again.  Life has been busy this summer!  This is my first attempt at  Zig Zag Coral  stitch.  I probably should have practiced first but it seemed the perfect stitch for adding beads!

Enjoying the challenge

Image
This small quilt had its origin in a workshop.  Rarely, do I choose to finish a quilt started in a workshop.  I don't like leaving things undone but I have given myself permission to do so with workshop pieces.  However, I think this one has potential and I am enjoying the challenge of making it right.  I am going to consider it my bead journal for this month.  The waterfall is going to come to life with sparkly beads!  Fun! Journal prompt #31

Image
This week Nina challenges us to use only a credit card and our fingers to create our page.  You can see the video  here .  I invited a friend over to get messy with me.  We had a lovely afternoon together and this is the page I created.  I used found poetry again.  It says,  'Beauty: Opening our eye to where creativity dwells a reassuring ritual comfortable and relaxed' I haven't played with my acrylic paints much lately.  It felt really good to get them out and have a messy play!

Another quilt finished.  This quilt is all silk, including the batting and thread.  What a delight to stitch it!  I painted and printed the silk and hand quilted it.   I am thinking of titling it "Monet Visits Ontario".
