Crazy Quilt Calendar 2019

Image
Pamela Kellogg has very kindly included my work her Kitty & Me Designs 2019 Crazy Quilt Calendar.  I am thrilled to included with such talented artists.  You can purchase the calendar at http://www.magcloud.com/user/kitty-and-me  or  https://www.etsy.com/shop/kittyandme I am linking to http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com/

Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
Lots of texture going on here.  This is my interpretation of the forest floor.  I have adhered burlap, lace, yarn, paper leaves, and a needle felted leaf.  Oh yes, and paint.  This piece has become quite stiff with all the glue and paint.  I am not sure if I will be able to add any stitching to it.  The plan is for it to become a cover for an altered book I am creating.  I have some leaf shaped beads that I would love to add and will have to give it try.  Hopefully, it isn't too miserable to stitch. 32 Years

Image
Even though my husband was out of the country on our 32nd anniversary he still made sure that I got roses.  He's a keeper. I am linking to http://image-in-ing.blogspot.com https://mersad-photography.blogspot.com

Slow Stitching

Image
It feels good to have found a few minutes to add some stitches to this piece.  Choosing the right thread and the right stitch is relaxing.  Not rushing to finish this is also relaxing.  No pressure. I am linking to https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/

A bit of progress

Image
My bead journal does not look significantly different from the last time.  Some of the beading I had added I subsequently picked out as I just didn't like it.  Some beads were added that I like.  It is rather slow going this month.  I am having a hard time imagining that it will be finished by the end of September. My focus has been on creating journals for the studio tour that happens tomorrow.  My Little Golden Book journals are just the cutest! I am linking to http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com/

Work in Progress Wednesday

It was so fun to play with some of the fancy stitches on my beautiful sewing machine.  Now I am adding some hand stitch to this piece.  I hand dyed the silk and it is lovely to stitch into it.  There is a lot of metallic thread on this piece so I am debating as to whether or not to add beads. Vintage Linens and Embroideries

Image
Years ago I was gifted with some beautiful embroideries.  I tucked them away in hopes of someday knowing what to do with them.  They were meant to be made into a quilt but I didn't really want to do that.  I have been making some really interesting and funky journals to sell at an upcoming studio tour and decided that these embroideries would make an interesting addition.  I have sewn them into an envelope form and will tuck them into the journals.  I have also been going through my extensive stash of linens, handkerchiefs, etc.  Most have been lovingly collected from thrift stores over the years.  They were meant to be included in my crazy quilts but I have far more than I can use for that purpose.  So in the journals, they go as well! Quick Collages

Image
These altered playing card collages are so much fun for me.  I enjoy the entire process which is pretty quick.  The part that takes the longest and which is the most enjoyable is choosing the words.  I pull a page out of a very old art book and scan the page for the words that jump out at me.  They don't always make sense and I am okay with that.  I have been making a set every morning for a little over a week.  I still have more ideas so will continue until I don't.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
This is the start of my bead journal for September.  The background is a dark blue velvet and in the photo it looks kind of grey.   A lot of light is needed to capture the holographic shine of the beads and therefore the rest is washed out.  I have used rather large elements to start off this design.  I don't usually and so I am a bit concerned that it won't turn out so well.  It is too soon to judge though.  Bring on the tiny beads! Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
I really enjoy participating in  Take a Stitch Tuesday  with Sharon B.  Especially when it is such a fun stitch.  This week was  Raised Cross Stitch .  I am pretty sure that I have tried this stitch once before but then forgot about it.  So my attempts this week are not the best.  First one on the left is really bad and needs to be removed.  The second one in the middle is acceptable and I will keep.  Third one not so good again.  I did not want to end on a sour note so I gave it one more try and used some Glisten Gloss Estaz thread (bottom photo).  I love the way it turned out.  I really must practice this stitch some more so as to keep it in my head!

Slow Stitching

Image
I have made some progress on my slow stitching.  The more I stitch on this piece the more I love it.  It a little bit reminds me of Chihuly glass. I am linking to https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/

I love a good challenge

Image
Ailsa Craig Quilt & Fibre Arts Festival& Arts Center  has posted a fibre art challenge.  New Zealand through our eyes is the theme.  I was really excited by this as I was in New Zealand in 2017.  I bought one piece of fabric while I was there and knew I had to use it for this challenge.  It is the batik at the bottom.  This is just the start and can't wait to do more! Collage

Image
I have been having an awful lot of fun creating these tiny collages.  I have some old playing cards that I sand and then adhere a paper napkin.  Then a few collage bits are added and finally some words.  I have an 80-year-old art book that I have been using.  I randomly tear out a page and then scan it for the right words.  Phrases jump off the page at me and I glue them down.  I think looking for the right words is so much fun.  Not sure why that tickles my fancy so well.  Pictured above is the set I created yesterday.  I have made three sets so far and can see myself doing this again and again.

Work in Progress Wednesday

My Dream `sinchie` is done and ready for the September guild meeting.  I feel really blessed to be a member of the Grand Guild of Fibre Artists.  I have met some of the best people.   One of whom was just here to borrow one of my pieces to show at a talk she is doing.  We chatted for an hour and could have easily talked further.  It is so great to be on the same page as someone. I had fun creating this piece using angelina fibres, a sheer ribbon and sequin waste cut up to make the flowers.
