Journal Page

My journal page is done on an old bookkeeping journal page.  Kind of fun.  Feels a bit full circle.  I studied accounting at university.  My dad was a bookkeeper.

Work in Progress Wednesday

This piece I started as part of my guild challenge.  I lost interest in it for that challenge and ended doing something else.  I resurrected it for my January bead journal project.  I needed a beading project that wasn't overly time consuming.  I am happy that I was able to get it finished before the month ended.  It is definitely different from my usual beading.  It was interesting to introduce cellophane and make it more mixed media.  I am linking to https://www.quiltfabrication.com/ http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.com/ http://www.esthersquiltblog.com/

It feels very good to be back into my regular routine.  Am I getting old?  I never used to love routines.  I guess I still don't love routines.  I love the time to explore and create as I choose.  My two installations are finished and the opening is tonight.  I am ever so pleased with the installations and myself!  This has been challenging for me and I definitely rose to the challenge.  I am excited to pursue more such challenges!  I am also excited to have a bit of downtime to pursue my regular stitching and journals.  Today I learned a new term, a commonplace book.  Turns out this has what I have been doing for years.  I thought I was a bit of a failed journaler but I am not alone. FromWikipedia   Commonplace books are a way to compile knowledge, usually by writing information into books. Such books are essentially scrapbooks filled with items of every kind: recipes, quotes, letters, poems, tables of weights and measures, proverbs, prayers, legal formulas.

Work in Progress Wednesday

I was thinking of doing a beaded motif on this CQ block but the end of the month is not far away.  I think the beading would take more time than I have.  I have placed this butterfly on the block and I am debating using it.  I think I like it and will stitch it down.  Of course, I will still add some beads, just not a whole motif.  Not much progress has been made on this block.  Two installations and a sunny holiday have messed with time for stitching. I heart Macro

It is nice to have the time to blog again.  January has been pretty full.  I just returned from the Bahamas.  I took along my Nikon but barely used it.  These gorgeous flowers I shot with my phone.  It is a new phone and I haven't used it for photos very much.  I am happy with the results.  Obviously, it would have been better with my Nikon and macro lens. Guild Challenge

Our six-inch challenge for January is the theme of music.  This is what I have so far.  I am honestly not sure where I am going with this.  I applied scraps of music paper to my fabric and I have added some paint.  Very mixed media.  I feel like there should be stitching.  It was a nice distraction to play with this for a few minutes.  I was hoping that a solution for my installation would magically appear while distracting myself.  The installation is being installed one week from today.  Things are really coming together but there is still work to do.  Better get at it! Added some found word poetry to a journal page.  Simple but fun.

Crazy Quilt Journal Project 2019

Image
Well, the holidays are over and I am glad to get back to a regular routine, as regular as my routine gets anyway.  I have decided to participate in the Crazy Quilt Journal Project for 2019.  I needed a break from it in 2018.  I have not done much stitching on this yet.  I have used mostly hand dyed silks for this project.  Still, lots to do but I will be able to concentrate more on this project once my installations are finished.  I am hoping to deliver most of the pieces this Saturday so there is a real press to get things done. The install date is Jan.  11. and I am still waiting on two key supplies!  ugh I am linking to https://www.quiltfabrication.com http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.com/ http://www.esthersquiltblog.com/
