Princess Bubbles Creates

 I like messing around in my art journals.  I like painting with pretty colours and exploring.  I like that my art journals are a safe place to let loose.  I like that I can shut down the inner critic and just play.  I like to play and think that adults need to do more of that.   I like long weekends in the summer.  My sweet hubby goes camping.  I stay home and eat chips and dip for supper!  And maybe some takeout but no cooking for me!  Oh, and I watch chick flicks.  Any good recommendations?  Ah, so satisfying to have 7 yes, 7 mandalas completed.  These mandalas only required a hanging device to be finished.  I sat outside on my deck and got them all stitched yesterday.  My progress feels great!  I love seeing the to-do pile dwindle!  It makes me feel on top of things and I have no doubt I will have a large body of work for my upcoming solo show.  I was pleased to see that I had signed and dated some of these on the back.  How clever of me, too bad I don't do that for all of them!

 I was pretty excited when I found these dragonfly charms.  I love dragonflies!  I knew the charms would work well on a mandala, of course.  I do get a little concerned that people will get bored with my mandalas but that is not enough to stop me from creating them.  I just keep thinking of more and more ways to make a mandala.  And it feels really good creating them.   I also added some interesting brass charms.  I would like to add more bugs.  Maybe butterflies would work well on this.  It is weird to me that the colour of the dragonflies is pretty accurate but the fabric looks more pink than purple in this photograph.   I am linking to https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/

 I finally got my word of the month finished.  I decided on a completely different background.  The letters got lost in my original choice.  This little mini quilt was created ages ago and the word works quite well on it.  At least I think it does.  This textile journal will be so interesting to look through once it is completed.  I will now start considering my word for July.  I am challenging myself to come up with a different way to do the letters each month.  Certainly a challenge but I do like a good challenge.   I like that I have a solo show of my mandalas at the end of the year.  I like that there is a goal for me to work towards.  When first discussing this show I was expecting to be using a smaller space and therefore thinking that I would only be showing my stitched mandala.  I like that they are open to me including my paper mandalas now that I have been offered such a large space. I have been considering how I would make that work.  The lower image is how I am envisioning the installation.  I like that my son Jeremy was able to create that image for me.  He is so talented and clever.  It will be approximately 10 feet by 10 feet. I like creating mandalas and have close to 400 that will go into this installation.  That number is just the loose mandalas and doesn't include the ones done in journals and altered books!  That's a lot of mandalas!  I guess my need for meditation and peace is pretty strong!  A while ago I signed up to participate in a collaborative art project.  Recipes for Sustainability is the title of the project.  I was mailed a 4x6 recipe card and directed to create something with no pressure.  I decided to do a small weaving with fabric scraps many of which are silk.  I have stitched it all together and adhered the piece to the recipe card.  Now I just need to pop it in the mail.  Each participant will receive a copy of everyone's recipe card.  I can't wait to see what everyone else creates.  I will have to be patient though as that won't happen until the end of the year.   It is kind of interesting that I am working with recipe cards a lot lately.  I took a bit of break from the Index Card a Day challenge though.  The prompts weren't super interesting to me and I didn't have any extra time for it.  I am hoping to get back into it this week.

  Here is an update on my Purple Reign challenge piece.  I have stitched on 192 Swarovski crystal beads.  I got an amazing deal on the beads at a yard sale I took my granddaughter to!  For some reason, I feel it is important to use 200 of these beads.  I only need to find a place for 8 more.  That won't be a problem.  I also have some freshwater pearls that I am considering using.    Stitching outside with the sunshine makes the crystals shine like diamonds.  It is a complete joy for me.   I plan to title this piece 'I am Royal' and find more high-end materials to use.  I have some real gold leaf that I would like to use.  I am not sure if it is the right choice esthetically though.  If I don't use it on this mandala I will find another to use it on.  I have had the gold leaf for many years and it is about time to use it!
