Mandala Monday

Image
Merry Christmas!  My day will filled with mandala colouring and Christmas movies.  I am completely happy with that.  Giving my children the pleasure of time alone with their own families feels good to me. It is something I always wanted.  I hope that they truly enjoy it. I have been printing some of my own mandala designs and colouring them in.  I started doing this years ago.  It feels more artistic to colour in my own designs.  I am always keen to be creative with my time but sometimes the hardest decision I want to make is choosing a colour.

Slow Stitching Sunday

It is so lovely to connect with other stitchers every Sunday.  I look forward to it every week.  Knowing that others find the same pleasure in connecting to thread and working with our hands is delightful.  I am grateful to our wonderful hostess  Kathy  for faithfully hosting every Sunday. I have started another mandala.  This one is done on black wool but in the photo, it looks dark grey.  I love the way black makes bright colours pop.  Bright colours mean joy to me and that is the message I want to send with my art.  May we all have more joy!

I love learning about my blogging friends who participate in I Like posts every Thursday.   LeeAnna  hosts a lovely group.  This week we are talking about: Unwrapping gifts on Xmas Eve or Xmas morning? do you prefer Christmas or New years? Do you have a usual way to spend NYE and or NYDay? We unwrap gifts on Christmas Eve and when we get together for our family Christmas.  When the boys were teenagers we started a new tradition of giving pajamas on Christmas Eve.  It isn't the most exciting present but everyone enjoys it.  We are rarely together on Christmas morning.  I am happy to let my sons enjoy some separate family time with their kids.  Christmas is overly busy and hard on little kids.  We do our Christmas together sometime during the week when it works for everyone.   I hate to sound like a Scrooge but I am not overly in love with either Christmas or New Year's. I prefer to give gifts when I find something that is perfec...

Work in Progress Wednesday

This is the other half of the scroll I just finished.  I love that for me, these scrolls are considered finished.  I don't need to put a backing on them or binding or any such tedious thing.  I only need to attach a hanging device should I decide to do that.  My scrolls are all sitting in a box right now.  Five of them are finished.  The box looks so inviting. Last week I put together a LOT of squares of fabric.  I lost count of how many scrolls I made.  They are all eagerly awaiting some form of embellishment.  Those scrolls are made from fabric that I have painted, stencilled, stamped and experimented upon.  I am not quite sure how I want to proceed with them.  The fun is in the embellishing but do they need it?  I think they need something but not a lot.

Mandala Monday a day late

Yesterday was a bit busy and I didn't get to making my mandala post.  Today will work just fine though.  This mandala is rather simple.  Generally, I prefer doing more complex mandalas but maybe, just maybe I could use some simple right now.

Slow Stitching Sunday

The floofy pages have been sewn together into a scroll.  Embellishing the seams went way faster than I thought they would.  This is the first six pages of the scroll.  A lot is going on here so I will show the second half next week.   Using the tiny bits of fabric feels good.  I hate to throw away beautiful scraps.  I have a basket of scraps that are too small for most projects.  Putting them together to make a scroll is a great way to prevent them from going into landfills! My day ahead is busy enough but there should be time for some stitching.   I am linking to https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/

Journal Page

Image
I am joining the challenge at  Creative Artistes  anything mixed media goes. My journal page started with some transfer foil.  I love the way it sparkles but I toned it down by painting with acrylics over it.  I love the way the sparkle still comes through but not as intensely.  I added some watercolour trees and some collage.  The words from Silent Night, 'all is calm and all is bright' were added.   I don't share my art journal pages very often.  I find I get judgmental of them when sharing.  I prefer keeping my journal pages private where I love the pages just as they are.  Where I find peace and joy in the creating.  Where no one has to like them but me.  Where they are good enough for me.
