journal page with japanese paper

Image
I am working away at using up the paper scraps I bought on the weekend.  On this journal page I used up a few.  I just need to find a quote to letter in the blank spaces.  Or maybe I could do some zentangles in those spaces.  hmm

TAST couching

Image
The top picture is the lovely new knitting fibre I bought this weekend and some hologram thread.  My favorite colors!  Usually I would use a plain thread so that the couching stitch is not noticeable.  But why not use some glitz.  This piece definitely needed glitz!  The background is a needle felted piece I started a while ago.  It definitely needs more stitching and probably some beads. Thanks to Sharon B at http://www.pintangle.com/journal/

a wonderful resource

http://www.dickblick.com/lesson-plans/grade-level/9-12/ Above is a link to some clever art ideas.  You certainly don't have to be an art teacher to enjoy these ideas!  There are more than a few I can't wait to try.

Japanese paper

Image
Yesterday was a great day!  I got to go to the bag sale at the Japanese Paper store in Toronto.  I went with a new friend and it was so lovely to get to know her better.  We shopped and had a delicious lunch and then shopped some more.  I have sorted my pile of paper scraps into piles.  Cool tones, warm tones and then neutrals.  I can't to play with them.  I think I will do some paper weaving with the skinny strips.  I also want to adhere some to fabric and then add stitch.  Fun times!

yummy silk thread

Image
Last week I found these yummy silk threads on clearance!  $3.00 a skein seemed like an awesome deal to me.  Not only are they silk but they have beads and sequins as well.  I am assuming that this thread would be for couching or weaving.  I don't think that it could pass through fabric because of the beads and sequins.  Aren't the colors gorgeous?

Tim Holtz tag for February

Image
When I first read Tim's blog post about the February tag I was a bit overwhelmed.  I didn't think that I would participate.  I don't have a lot of the materials that he used.  Then I thought better of that decision.  Isn't that what creativity is all about?  Challenging yourself to make something with what you have?  I really like the tag that I created.  It is similar to Tim's but not exactly the same.  I can never copy another artist exactly anyway.  What fun is that?

TAST chain stitch

Image
Yesterday I painted a small canvas landscape with the intention of adding stitch to it.  Sharon B's take a stitch Tuesday is the chain stitch this week.  I think it worked well as a fill in stitch on this landscape.  I used DMC color variations thread.  I actually used the entire skein.  I have never done that before this! I am concerned that I am not being creative enough with the stitches that I know.    I am stretching myself and trying new things but ....

I love this idea

I believe there is some truth in recording your vision so you can run towards it.  Whether you draw, write or collage something happens in your brain.

kaleidoscope

Image
Earlier I posted an image I created using my Ipad and an application called Silk.  It is a fun little app to use!  I knew I could take that image further using Kaleidoscope Kreator.  I wish I owned shares in that company!  This is what I created!  I can imagine printing it on fabric and then adding beads and stitching.  Yummy!

Crazy quilt journal project for February

Image
I LOVE animal prints!  I think they work quite well with the red threads, ribbons and beads.

Lazy Daisy TAST

Image
I love the lazy daisy stitch.  It is probably one of the first stitches that I learned when I started embroidering.  It is definitely a go to stitch for me.  I suppose in the spirit of TAST I should have done something more creative with this stitch since I know it so well.  Sharon B at http://www.pintangle.com   is doing a wonderful job with Take a Stitch Tuesday.  I am so enjoying it!

Coloricious youtube tutorials

Image
I learned a couple of new things today.  I watched this tutorial about fabric slashing and was inspired.  This is a really cool technique with a lot of potential.  Watch and enjoy! I also learned how to put a youtube video onto my blog!  So cool!  Coloricious has a lot of good videos!

ipad app Silk

Image
This is such a fun app to use.  For $2.00 it is totally worth it.  I have no affiliation.  I just love to play!  I created this on the ipad and took a photo of it.  I can see myself using the photo in Kaleidoscope Kreator or just printing it onto fabric and adding some stitching!

Crafter's Workshop stencils

Image
I love to experiment.  The idea hit me that layering stencils could result in something interesting.  I first used the zebra skin template by Craft's Choice.  I colored with a sharpie marker.  I would use acrylic paint and stencil brush next time as it would be faster.  I then sprayed Shimmering Mist over the flower stencil.  I absolutely love the combination.  I was thinking that I would make this into a small wall hanging.  I am just not sure what else to add to this.  Probably some beads.  I was starting to think that I like this so much I don't want to ruin it.  That is really a stupid thought!  I can always recreate it if I have to!  I will be bold and go for it!

Chevron stitch for TAST

Image
I am always glad to learn something new.  This stitch is new to me and I was a bit intimidated by it.  I am glad to say that it really isn't that difficult.  Well, except for the nasty thread that I was using.  OH my gosh!  It was constantly snarling, tangling and being plain nasty!  The top picture is my first attempt.  I probably should have tried it on some even weave.  Oh well, I am a wonky kind of gal anyway.  The next picture I added it to a row of the herringbone stitch.  I like the way it looks.  Thanks to Sharon B at http://www.pintangle.com/   for doing Take a Stitch Tuesday.  I am really enjoying the process.

funky little duct tape journal

Image
Diana Trout has a youtube video showing how to make a duct tape journal.  I have made a few of them now but this one is a bit different.  I took it a step further by really jazzing up the cover.  I applied beads, sequins etc.  I waited for the glue to dry and then added a coat of matte medium.  Any acrylic medium will work though.  Once it is dry I added color with alcohol inks.  I believe I learned that from a youtube video as well.  It is so nice and glitzy!  Just the way I love it!

February bead journal

Image
This year I am stitching on photos of rust and pealing paint.  I really enjoying having a preplanned  idea.  Of course I don't know what I am going to stitch each month but I do have the base.  A heart made perfect sense to me for this month.  I really like the idea of cutting a little something away from the photo.  I may have to try that again.  Thanks for looking!

a sneak peek at my bead journal for February

Image
Okay, I am feeling rather pleased with myself!  I cut the heart shape out of the photo that I am working on this month.  I then added the stitching to stretch across the opening.  I am thinking this is a really cool idea!  I still have to add the beading so stay tuned for that.
