Work in progress Wednesday

Definitely made some improvements.  It is the last day of the month and I really wish that I could call this block done.  However, I feel like it still needs something.  I wish I knew what it was!  I will not rush it though, as that never works for me.

Take a Stitch Tuesday

Today I learned how to do the rope stitch from sharon B at  It is quite an easy stitch really and I enjoyed doing it.  I will definitely use it more.  It isn't all that easy to see in the photo above as I used a thread that match the fabric.  Oh well, I know it is there!

Playing with collage

My heart has been yearning to do more paper collage.  I go through stages of playing with paper or playing with fibre.  I haven't played with paper for quite a while so that explains the yearning.   I created this tree collage with small bits of blue magazine paper.  It became a bit tedious so the paper pieces grew in size.  I really like the collage so I color copied it. That way I could explore more without the tedious part.  I bought a new white metallic marker the other day and I wanted to try it out.  Thus all of the doodles on the tree.  I had a lot of fun doing this!

Work in Progress Wednesday

I have done a lot of picking out on this block.  More than I have ever done ever!  And I probably need to do more.  I don't like going backwards.  grrrr  However, my 'tree', upper right, is just not working for me.  This is the third or fourth incarnation and I still don't like it.  In fact the first way I did it  liked the best but I didn't have enough beads to finish it.  That is a bit frustrating.  I also picked out some lazy daisy stitches that I had done and put in some small, flower beads.  Ultimately I know that I will be glad that I persisted and I have to be confident that it will all come together.

Even more wonky

I was encouraged to explore the rice stitch and make it even more wonky than last week.  This fits with who I am much better than trying to work the stitch on a grid.  Thanks to Sharon B at for the instructions.

Paper collage

I haven't played with paper for a while.  The other day I took a few moments to go through some of the paper things I have created.  It was quite satisifying to look at all the pretty papers.  I found this collage and thought I quite like it.  I am not exactly sure what comes next with it.  I am thinking about making a color copy of it and possibly stitching into that color copy.

Lace gifts

My sweet sister in law, Ellen is so good to me.  Over the years she has found many wonderful doilies.  These two beautiful pieces of lace are her most recent gifts to me.  I am excited to use them.  I really must create something beautiful for her as a thank you.

Work in Progress Wednesday

My landscape is progressing.  I have mostly worked on the lower third of the piece.  I added lace and bead, silk ribbon and bullion stitch.  I only have a vague idea as to what I want to do with with the rest of the piece. I am confident it will all come together though.

Take a Stitch Tuesday

This is the Rice stitch which I understand is a canvas stitch.  Sharon B at shows the different variations of this stitch and recommends using waste canvas when stitching onto a crazy quilt/regular fabric.  Okay, so I am always the rebel and just went straight to stitching onto my fabric without using the waste canvas.  I honestly don't care if my stitches are perfect.  I like the irregularity as it has a more organic feel to me.

I am still doing some crocheting

I have been working on away on this freeform crochet scarf/shawl.  It keeps growing.  I am having a lot of making it and exploring different stitches.  I always like learning new things.  I can imagine that it is going to keep me warm and snuggly next winter.  Not that I am anxious for that!

Bead Journal for April

It turned out alright.  Not my favorite though.  I was trying to break out of my box of using analogous colors.   I like to break out of my boxes and learn new things however I am not always pleased with the results.  That's okay, all is not lost.  I learned something.

Work in progress Wednesday

This is my crazy quilt project for April.  It is a bit different as I collaged the fabric in an offbeat way.  I wasn't exactly sure where I was going with it until just now.  Seeing it in a photo can make all the difference.  Now I see a landscape and I am excited go down that track.

Take a stitch Tuesday

Beaded Looped Cretan stitch was shown by Sharon B at last week.  It is an interesting stitch.  I have added it to my crazy quilt, top picture, and my bead journal project for April.

Still thinking about water

Actually, water is a running theme in my work.  I only just realized that!  duh!  Anyway, I sat at my needle felting machine last week and joyously created this piece.  I haven't decided if it is finished or not.  I am leaning towards adding some beads though.  The background is a sweater I cut up.  I found it at a thrift store already preshrunk.  I love the texture and the metallic thread running through it.   Yes, the more I look at the more I think it needs something more.  Possibly some hand stitching as well as the beads.

Work in Progress Wednesday

It is finished.  I even got a nice comment from my husband!  I was feeling a little stuck last week but I am glad I persisted.

Take a stitch Tuesday

Looped Cretan stitch is the stitch that Sharon B. at challenges us with this week.  My first attempt is in the top photo, top left of the photo.  It is not done correctly. I didn't realize that until I looked at the beaded version of the stitch.  So I went back and dit it correctly, lower right of that photo.    I then felt confident enough to add it to the seams where the blocks join in my crazy quilt project from last year, bottom photo.  I am not feeling quite up to snuff today so I will hold off on doing the beaded version.
