Please enjoy!  I colored mine with brush markers and Sharpies on photo paper.  Happy New Year!

Though technically not a crazy quilt block this is what I am doing for my December CQ project.  I was really hoping to have it finished by now but that has been the theme of this year, finishing late.  I have been participating in the CQ block challenge for a number of years now.  I am taking a break in 2016.  I still love CQ and will likely participate another year but need sometime to concentrate on other projects. Texture photo

Image
The peeling paint has created so much lovely texture.  Prowling around the auto wrecker is so much fun.  Kind of weird that this princess enjoys it so much! I am linking with http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca/ http://mersad-photography.blogspot.ca/2015/12/fun-in-snow-through-my-lens-nr-22.html

Snowflake coloring page

Please enjoy this free snowflake design, color it or do as you wish.  I used Sharpies, metallic markers and a gel pen to color mine.  Merry Christmas!

I heart Macro but this isn't a macro shot

I got to enjoy a small waterfall tour this past fall.  Unfortunately, the foliage wasn't at it best color but the waterfalls were still beautiful. Detritus

Image
My 'bead' journal project for December is finished.  I had to keep it fairly quick and easy as life is busy.  My 'beads's are rolled paper.  I stitched with dental floss that I colored with Sharpies.  I stitched onto a scrap of Christmas wrapping paper.  My piece is a statement against the over consumerism of this time of year.  I love and celebrate Christmas.  I love giving and getting presents but that is not what is truly important about Christmas, at least to me. I had fun coloring this, as I usually do.  I used a number of different things to color it: a glitter gel pen, metallic silver Sharpie, Crayola markers, and Prismacolor pencil crayons.  You are welcome to print and color this image.  Enjoy!

My November Crazy quilt project is done.  I am really struggling to finish these projects in the same month this year!  I think I need to take a break from crazy quilting.  I am not giving it my all and need a change.  I have a start on the December project so that I can finish out the year. I heart Macro

It is a very grey and dreary day here.  I would much rather have snow than rain at this time of year.  Oh well, I am cheering myself with a bright, close up of this flower. Puzzling and pondering

Image
I cut a kirigami snowflake and used it as a stencil to create this on a sheer piece of fabric.  The paints are metallic and I think you can see that in the photo.  I love they way it turned out.  I love the design.  Now I am not totally sure as to what to do next.  If I want to stitch on it then it will need to be adhered to some fusible interfacing as the sheer fabric is too flimsy on its own.  But then I lose the sheer quality.  Puzzling, pondering hmmm. I really like this design.  I think I could have done a better job coloring it.  I am not thrilled with the gold that I added around the edge.  The light pink seems a little off as well.  I may try it again with different colors.  Please feel to print and color.  I would love to see what you do with it.

Take a stitch Tuesday

Image
The Buttonhole Wheel stitch is so cool!  I really like it.  I used it here with unusual materials.  This is the start of my bead journal project for December.  I decided to use only reclaimed materials and I am calling the piece  Detritus.  I reused Christmas wrapping paper and adhered it to fusible interfacing.  I rolled paper strips to form my 'beads'.  I have stitched with dental tape that I colored with Sharpie markers.  My husband was given a massive amount of dental tape and we will never get through it all.  It just makes sense to repurpose some of it.  Thanks to Sharon B at  pintangle.com  for doing Take a Stitch Tuesday!

Last week I got to go to McLean's auto wreckers with my dear friend ML.  I love going to this place, especially with a friend!  For some reason I find beauty in all the rust and decay.  I found this moss? lichen?  not sure what it is.  It was growing on one side of an old truck.  It kind of reminds me of snowflakes. Playing with paper and color

Image
This was simply just play.  I love watching colors run and blend together.  I used fluid watercolors on Japanese paper.  I drew the feathered heart design with white glue first.  I may adhere this to fusible interfacing and add some stitching.  I may not.  I so enjoyed the process of doing this that it doesn't have to become anything else. Here is my coloring page for the week.  I was going for a snowflake with this one.  I used a silver Sharpie marker and managed to capture the shine!  Not easy to do.  Have fun coloring this design!

Work in Progress Wednesday

My bead journal for November is finished.  I particularly like the beaded chain stitch that I did with the blue beads.  I can see room for improvement with this piece.  I think adding some more stitches done in a metallic embroidery thread could add some interesting texture.  At this point I don't have time so will just call it finished for now. I used my Prismacolor pencil crayons and few markers to color this image.  I tried to focus on blending and think I did alright.  Please feel free to print this image and color it.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Very close to the end of November but this is my start on my CQ block for the month.  I think I have a shot at getting finished as I don't have much on plate at the moment.  I am ready for some quiet stitching time!  These are definitely not my typical colors.  I do like the look of this though.  I have added the  Whipped Double Chain that Sharon B. at  http://pintangle.com/  showed.  I decided to add a bead to the whipped part.  Beads are always good! Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
I have been too busy to be able to participate in Take a Stitch Tuesday with Sharon B at  pintangle.com    for a while.  It felt good to do the the Butterfly Chain Stitch today.  I think it worked rather well stitching onto the handmade paper.  The paper is in fact pink with silver fleck but the camera didn't capture that properly.

Flowers are absolutely fascinating to me.  I wish I had a lens that would take microscopic images! I am linking with http://anenglishgirlrambles.blogspot.ca/2015/11/todays-flowers-373-november-20th-2015.html http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca/

So glad we haven't had any snow yet.  I had a lot fun coloring this snowflake design.  I used Inktense pencils and some metallic ink to add details.  Please feel free to print and color this design.

More work in Progress

This butterfly has been machine stitched, hand stitched and hand colored.  It is becoming a doodle cloth as I keep adding more marks.  I am having fun trying out different media on it.   I have used Prismacolor pencil crayons, Smooch Ink, Caran d'ache watercolor crayons and Inktense.  I think it might be ready for some beading now. A  simple design this week.  Sometimes it is nice to have something a little bit easy to do. I used watercolor pencils and Smooch Ink.  I love the shimmer of Smooch Ink.  As always, please freely enjoy coloring this!

This is one of those pieces that has been hanging around for a while.  I created it with the intention of doing some bead embroidery on it.  Today I added some Smooch Ink to it in places to add some glimmer because beads weren't going to add enough right? When I first glanced at this flower I would have called it white.  That is not how I would describe it after photographing it with my macro lens!  That is what I love about macro it makes me see things in a new way and that is always good. October Crazy Quilt

Image
I am having trouble getting my crazy quilt projects done on time each month.  At the beginning of the year I had a clear vision as to what I wanted to get done.  Due to that I was able to get my blocks finished quickly for the first four months.  Since then I have been floundering.  I am persisting though.  There are only two blocks left to do for the year.  I can do it! Have fun with this free mandala

Click on the top image to print it.  The image below is my coloring of that mandala.  I used Sharpie markers and Smooch inks.  Smooch inks have amazing glimmer but I did not capture it very well.  Possibly you can see it in the center gold part. Jo has posted her lovely coloring  of my mandalas at  http://stitchability.blogspot.ca/2015/11/this-and-that.html   Check it out.

This is a hyperbolic crochet piece done in 100% wool.  I am wanting to felt it now.  Curiosity gets the better of me sometimes! I am linking with http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/

Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
I struggled with this stitch.  For some reason I just couldn't get it to stick in my head.  I started out trying it on paper as is my practice this time around with Take a Stitch Tuesday.  I just couldn't get it to work.  Now I have done it on my October CQ block.  Yes, I am running behind.  At least I had time to give this stitch a try.   Pintangle

I would never call myself a painter

Image
Yesterday I was at the Kitchener Waterloo Art Gallery to volunteer with the senior's art program.  I love working with the seniors!  They are fabulous!   One of the ladies has had a stroke and struggles to find some words.  However, she doesn't let it stop her.  She participates in the discussion about the art works more than anyone.  Everyone patiently waits while tries to come up with the right word.  She always has a big smile on her face!  God bless her!  The art instructor asked if I would do up a sample to show to the seniors and possibly inspire them.  I only had about 10 minutes and this is what I created.  I had fun doing it and think it isn't bad for 10 minutes.

This mandala I decided to paint with Twinkling H2Os watercolor paint by Luminarte.  I wanted to participate in their fall color challenge.  If you look closely you can see the beautiful shimmer the paints have.  You can also see all my goofs if you look closely!  Oh well. As per usual, please feel free to print the mandala I designed.  It would be really cool to see how you color it!

Work in Progress Wednesday

Poor little blog!  It has been ignored recently due to getting  Her Cup Runneth Over Show and Silent Auction  installed.  The bulk of my time has been spent working on this worthy cause!  the show is now up and looks fabulous by the way!  So many talented artists have contributed some really fantastic art bras! I have had a few minutes to create though.  The piece pictured above is a really good start!  I know it doesn't look like much yet.  I have applied old music sheets to canvas fabric.  I have also added some transfer foil and then some inks on top of that.  I like the way some of the shimmer shines through.  I got so lost in applying the inks that I spilled half a bottle of Heart of Darkness ink.  What a mess!!!  I even had it in my hair.  I am not sure what my next step is for this piece.  It is definitely going to have stitching on it but it may need more ink first. I am having a lot of fun coloring my own designs!  It is very satisfying to me.  I hope you like these designs that I post and spend some time coloring them. It is so relaxing. I am not sure the rosie pink color was the right choice.  It was originally much darker so I used a white pencil crayon to tame it a bit.  Oh well, not the end of the world.
