Lee Anna  has posed these questions to us. in recognition of father's day, do you have any particular memories to share? This could be, and will be for me, a man who filled the role of father for you in any way...  I have fond memories of my step father. What about any likes about your own children if you have any, and a way they honored your husband? Or if lacking any father like men in your life, what would you like in a father?  We're looking for things we liked about kind men in our lives. My Dad loved to work with his hands.  He built the garage at our house.  He also built our cottage.  I remember him giving me a small set of tools when I was young.  I felt so grown up and was thrilled to be able to 'help' him build things. My Dad had his issues but I did feel loved by him.  I remember him reading the poem  There was a little girl,  she had a little curl,  right in the middle of her forehead,  and when she was...

Work in Progress Wednesday

Luscious wool circles have been cut out for my next project.  I do love to stitch into wool but cutting it out was a bit of a chore.  I had to take numerous breaks to give my hands a rest.  I cut out ten more than I can use for this project.  Oops.  Oh well, I am sure I can come up with an interesting way to use them.  I would love to get this project done in time to submit it to The Grand National Quilt Show.  That doesn't seem quite realistic though and rushing would rob me of the joy of creating it.  There will likely be another show I can submit it to.

Mandala Monday

I can't stop creating mandalas.  I don't want to.  More ideas come all the time.  Last week my sister shared an image of a beautiful quilt with me.  It was inspiring.  Today an idea came to me how to make a quilt using that quilt as a jumping-off point.  My idea is my own and will in no way be a copy of that quilt.  I haven't kept the image as a reference on purpose.   On another note, I was asked to be a presenter at the  Transcendence: Art & Spirituality Summit  which starts next week.  My workshop is on mandalas.  I know, big surprise.  Anyway, do sign up for the summit as it is free.  I am sure there will be a lot of interesting teachers presenting!

Slow Stitching Sunday

I had been feeling the need to do an encrusted piece of work.  No big ideas were coming to me.  It made sense to take one of my small floofy book pages and encrust it.  It was fun to go through my stash of beads to pick out the right things.  I do love going through my stash! I am thinking it could use a bit more stitching but maybe not.  I have to be mindful of this becoming too heavy.  I also have to be aware of the edges.  A decision still has to be made as to which edges will be sewn together to form the scroll.   Yesterday was my slow stitching day.  The weather was perfect for stitching outside and enjoying my deck.  I am not sure if that will work for today.  Thankfully, we are getting a bit of rain right now.  No complaints.  We desperately need it. Lee Anna  has more ice cream questions for us this week.     For June 8 2023 tell us about a favorite memory from childhood of eating ice cream. Did your family go to Dairy Queen like mine did? Did you have a birthday ritual where you got anything you wanted at the restaurant?  Has your taste changed from tutti-fruitti with sprinkles or does it still make your hear sing? remember neopolitan three flavor ice cream bricks? I'd did out the chocolate first leaving the strawberry and vanilla for the folks! Well, for someone who doesn't overly love ice cream, I do have a fair number of memories about it.  My Mom always struggled to get me to drink milk.  I don't like it.  One day my brother Gary bribed me.  For every glass of milk I drank he would buy me an ice cream sundae from DQ.  When I was a kid I liked ice cream enough to drink a few glasses of milk.  I honestly don't remember how many sundaes my brother bought me.  One for sur...

My Radical Botanical Challenge piece is finished.  I am not sure that it is radical but it is botanical and it is different for me.  I enjoyed stitching this piece and using recycled materials.  I will get this image sent off to the San Fransisco School of Needlework and Design now.  Their stitching challenges are interesting.  I don't always know what I will do with the piece once it is finished though.  Oh well, it was a pleasure to create it.

Mandala Monday

Mandalas are such a beautiful way to play with colour.  This mandala is all about colour. When it comes to my paper mandalas I haven't really explored adding texture all that much.  It might be interesting to do more of that. I have tried using some embossing powder and micro glass beads.  Those mandalas turned out okay but not great.   More need to be tried.  I would also like to explore more substrates for my mandalas.  Mostly it has been paper or cloth.  Those are my two favourites but for sure there have to be others to explore.
