Slow Stitching Sunday

Image
I find myself stitching on my mandalas again.  Even though I occasionally take a break from stitching mandalas, this is a love affair I can't imagine ending.  Of course, I could be wrong.  I do have many interests and don't like to be tied down.   The possibilities seem limitless and the ideas just keep coming with mandalas though. This one looks like a record album at the moment.  I wonder if my hubby would mind me rescuing one of his old albums and making it into art.  Hmm?  I do love a good upcycle!  Oh no, my brain has started swimming in ideas! LeeAnna  asks: What lessons from your childhood have most impacted your worldview? What a great question!  I think there are some 'lessons' from childhood that are better discussed with a therapist!  I won't go into my um dysfunction lessons here.  It is enough to say that I am still learning. Childhood can be magical.  I love that Liliana thinks that little umbrella is just the right size for her.  I love her big brother photo bombing too!  I am so grateful to have five beautiful grandchildren now!  I pray they only know unconditional love from me.   Okay, one lesson from childhood.  I am hesitant to call it a lesson though.  I am not sure where I learned it.  I was the kid that was kind and inclusive of the new kid, the weird kid, the disabled kid, etc. I was the kid who stood up for the underdog even when it got me in trouble.  I have always tried to be warm, supportive and welcoming.  I am hoping that doesn'...

I decided it was time to work on this mandala and add some stitches to it.  I think I am done adding to the outer edge.  The centre needs a little something though.  It will be a joy to go through my stash to find just the right thing.

Mandala Monday

I finally did it.  I have been wanting to use Zentangle patterns to create a mandala for a long time.  Fear of doing it right held me back.  Ridiculous!  How could I do it wrong?  So my perfectly imperfect mandala has been created.  I am so glad I threw caution to the wind.  I enjoyed doing it.  It was relaxing.  It is far from beautiful but that's okay!

Slow Stitching Sunday

I have started playing with the seams on this scroll.  The seams are short and there are not a lot of them.  I expect that it won't take a long time to finish.  These scrolls are such an enjoyable project.  I have a basket that is brimming with them.   I ponder what I will do with these scrolls.  Do I have to do anything with them?  Can it be enough just to make them?   Happy Mother's Day! LeeAnna  asks in honor of my birthday coming up: How do you celebrate your birthday? Did you grow up with parties? Home made cake or store bought? Theme parties? Did you share a birthday with someone special to you? Do you give yourself a gift each year? Do you reevaluate the year somehow? Fun questions!  I had a few parties while growing up.  Certainly, not every birthday was a big celebration.  The year Mom made her disgusting stew for my birthday is memorable!  Ugh!!!  Mostly Mom baked our cakes.  Her spice cake was my favourite.  Now we have store-bought cakes as I am not a baker.  For a while, I would get cupcakes so everyone could have their favourite flavour.  There were no theme parties for me.  I don't think that was a thing when I was growing up.  I did theme parties for my sons though.  I wonder if they remember them.  I do have photos though. I usually treat myself to some sort of art supply for my birthda...

I am pleased to say that these two mandalas have been conditionally accepted into a local fibre show.  They were accepted based on the photos and will need to be examined physically before being accepted.  Thankfully, I can see no reason for them not being accepted.  I know someone who had her quilt rejected because it smelled of cigarette smoke thanks to her husband.  :( It always feels good to have one's work accepted into a show.  I haven't been submitting to a lot of shows lately.  I needed a break after having so many rejections last year.  That gets tiresome.
