Still loving the fall, especially the leaves!  There are still a lot of leaves on the trees in this area.  I am very grateful for the color lasting so long this year. I am linking with http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca/ https://mersad-photography.blogspot.ca/2016/10/halloween-fun-facts.html

October Bead Journal

Image
I finally got this bead journal finished.  I am okay with the way it turned out but for some reason I did not love making this one.  I think it was because I was filling in spaces.  There was a lack of freedom for me. I am linking with http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.ca/

Journal challenge week #43

Image
The quote for this week is rather long.  "Don't just chase your dreams. Stalk them. Hide in the bushes. Follow them around town. If your dreams aren't seriously considering a restraining order against you, get busy." I shortened it to 'dream big juicey dreams, chase them down.'    I had fun adding nice bright colors to the page. My journal pages are quite simple.  I often like the looks of journals pages that are created with a lot of layers but I find my time is limited for journal pages.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
Yesterday my fibre guild met for our monthly meeting.  It was so good to get together with like minded artists.  The lower photo is  my six inch experimental piece I brought for our year long challenge.  You can see what the other guild members brought on our facebook page here  https://www.facebook.com/grandguildoffibreartists/    Orange purple were our challenge colors for October. For November our colors are green and yellow.  The top photo shows what I have so far.  I have been going through my stash of experiments to pull together my pieces.  It feels good to use up bits and pieces. I also heart color and the abstract quality of this photo.  My macro lens is so fabulous. I am linking with https://mersad-photography.blogspot.ca/2016/10/behind-corner-through-my-lens-nr-65.html http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca/

Playing with my Sewing Machine

Image
I have had my beautiful sewing machine for about 1 1/2 years.  I was thinking the other day that I really haven't used it as much as I thought I would.  Today I found the time to do some playing.  I enjoyed trying out the fancy stitches that it has.  I have a hard time throwing away beautiful ribbons that come on packages so I used those to stitch down onto this piece.  I also got out some of my hand dyed lace and trims.  It was quite lovely to just play for an hour or so. Work in Progress Wednesday

I have not had a lot of time for stitching lately.  I managed to find a few minutes to work on my silk on silk dragonfly.  It actually looks a little sloppy to me.  I am not super happy with the way this looks.  Possibly I will add some more stitching to it, when I can find a few more minutes! Take a stitch Tuesday

Image
This is my first try at the Inverted Feather Stitch.  It is a cool stitch!  I like it even though I didn't do a terrific job with it.  It isn't fair to myself to expect perfection on the first try.  So I accept and move along.  Thanks to  Sharon B  for the instructions.

Welcome autumn.  I do love the colors of fall.  So pretty.  I am not anxious for autumn to come as it means the end of summer but I do enjoy it.  We are getting gorgeous summerlike weather right now! I am linking with http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca/

Progress on my Bead Journal

Image
I am pleased with my progress so far.  I am going for a mixed media approach with this bead journal.  I have used silver transfer foil on one row.  I have also used some micro beads in gel medium but I am not super happy with those little sections.  I am not sure how I will fix them at this point but trust that an idea will come.  There is still a lot of beading to do and I am confident I can that done. Art Journal Week #41

Image
Live simply. Expect little.  Give much.  Love extravagantly.  Nice quote and good advice!  Definitely how I try to live my life!  Playing on my journal pages is so good.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
Okay, not so much work in progress.  I am taking this opportunity to say with all gratitude this piece was accepted for publication by Linda and Laura Kemshall in their  Through Our Hands  publication.  I highly respect the work that Linda and Laura are doing.  I am very honoured that they thought my work was good enough to be in their magazine!  It is always a thrill for me to have my work accepted! Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
I have added the Woven Detached Chain to this piece.  I really like the woven stitches.  They add so much texture.  Thanks to Sharon B at  Pintangle  for the instructions.  This piece will require more of these stitches.  This piece has been languishing in a pile and I kind of forgot about it.  Time to resurrect it!

Another fun burst of color.  This flower reminds me of fireworks in a way.  I had to capture some of this beautiful bouquet that hubby gave me for our 30th anniversary. Playing in my Fabric Journal

Image
When I started this journal I didn't really have a theme in mind.  A tree theme has quickly developed.  I think it works really well with the animal print fabrics.  This spread has a lot of layers to it already.  I cut a tree stencil and used white spray paint.  That did not give me a good coverage so I added a layer of white chalk pastel and then fixative.  I then added layers of blue with my Caran D'ache Neocolors.  I still need to add some more blue.  I had thought I would add some green at the base of the trees but now I am thinking of leaving it white for a winter scene. Journal Week #40

Image
The quote this week is from Oprah - "When I look into the future, it's so bright it burns my eyes." There is some optimism for you.  I like to think of myself as an optimist as well.  I like to think that I can always find the silver lining.  This spread already had the blue backgrounds done with different watercolor techniques.  I added the sun cut from painted felt.

Work in Progress Wednesday

I have made a just a tiny bit of progress on my bead journal for October.  I am taking a mixed media approach with this one.  I have added some silver transfer foil and some glitter ink as well as the beads.  Still lots to do and I am trying to not be overwhelmed with this project and all the other things going on in my life! Take a Stitch Tuesday

This is the Slipped Detached Chain with added beads.   Sharon B  kindly gives the instructions on her blog.  I have done this stitch enough that I felt comfortable to try something new with it.  New for me at least.  Spacing isn't super neat or neat at all, but I still like the way it looks.

I am a winner!

Image
I am feeling ever so blessed this week.  I follow Grumbacher Art Supplies on Facebook.  Every Monday they give away a box of art supplies to five of their followers who comment.  This week I was picked.  The box arrived yesterday!  Talk about fast!  Ink, markers, charcoal pencils, paint and paint brushes were in the box.  So generous!  I look forward to playing with it all. Also, this week I found out I was chosen to be the Artist in Residence with  Kwartzlab  for October through to December.  Pretty exciting!  I plan to put the laser cutter to good use.  Cutting my own stencils and experimenting with sheer fabric are on the agenda. I wonder what good thing is coming next!
