April Crazy quilt Block

Image
I am not completely happy with this block now that I am looking at a photo of it.  That lace is still bothering me.  However, I think it can be fixed.  Once this block is sewn to the other three blocks I think it will all come together.  On a positive note, these colours make me really happy. A guild member suggested to me that I mount my bead journals on something bigger and thereby making them more important.  I like her suggestion and I am thinking about applying this bead journal to this.  This was just a little experiment with my hand dyed pieces of cotton.  I think this could work. Take a Stitch Tuesday Challenge

Image
Sharon B  has challenged us to use three stitches in a project.    I decided to add the  Fly Stitch ,  Chevron Stitch , and  Long Tail Chain  to my bead journal for April.  All those stitches are beaded.  The top photo is the whole piece.  The bottom photo is a close up of the beading.

Another beautiful hydrangea.  This one is no longer at its peak yet I still find it beautiful.  Finding beauty in the aged is a theme developing in my life. I am linking with http://image-in-ing.blogspot. https://mersad-photography.blogspot.ca

Just needs a binding

I am quite pleased with this little quilt.  I hand painted the silk top.  I hand quilted the three layers together.  I used silk batting, silk backing, and silk thread.  So luscious.  In the last month, I have finished or very close to finished 7 quilts.  I am a machine!  It feels so good! Journal Prompt #15

Life is all about balance.  I agree with this statement.  I like to think that I have a balanced life.  I have time for work, volunteering and recreation, exercise and mostly eating right.  I have time with family and friends as well as time alone.  I am very blessed. I made a color copy of a bead journal and used that for the background of this quote.  Quick and easy as I have had a busy week.

This landscape quilt needs to be finished.  I have had worked on it on and off for years.  Parts of it I like a lot.  Other parts not so much and those are the parts that are keeping me from finishing this.  The waterfall needs some sparkly threads (there are a couple but quite hard to see) and beads, that's easy.  The tree on the right, well the whole right side of this quilt is not quite right.  I am almost tempted to slice it off but then the proportions would be wrong.  I would love to get this done so I can include it in my trunk show.  Any advice? Take a Stitch Tuesday Challenge

Image
Sharon B  is taking a two-week break from Take a Stitch Tuesday to give people a chance to get up to date.  However, she has offered a challenge to those of us that are caught up.  Use any three stitches on a small project.  This is just perfect for me.  I have been wanting to combine stitches on my seams in hopes of being a bit more interesting.  Today I used the   Berry Stitch ,   Feathered Chain stitch , and  Fern stitch .  I think it works and I am excited to try more of this!

They hydrangea flowers in New Zealand were giant.  I love the mottled color on this one. I am linking with Mersad image-in-ing

My April Bead Journal

Image
This small quilt has been languishing for a few years.  There is nothing like deadlines to spur me on to completing something!  I have been booked to do a trunk show and I want this quilt to be a part of it.  I think it is an interesting piece.  I photographed beads and then manipulated the photo, printed it and quilted it.  I am now working on the beading.  I have used some of the beads that I photographed. Fun! I am linking with http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.ca/

'No matter how you feel.  Get up, dress up, show up and never give up.'  Good Advice.  Honestly, giving up doesn't come naturally to me.  Last month, while in New Zealand we hiked a mountain.  Granted, it was a small mountain.  Good thing it wasn't a big one.  I know my limitations.  I am decently fit for my age but this hike was difficult.  It took us four hours to get to the top.  At that point, I was exhausted and my feet were blistered.  Nevertheless, I persisted and made it to the top.  Strike that off my bucket list.   It took three hours to get back to the car.  My feet were agony but I did not give up!  Yay me!

My stitch a day project for April is french knots.  I am stitching them onto fabric I created with painted fusible web.  I have my favorite tree drawn onto the fabric and plan to fill it in with three colors of green floss.  I think it will look interesting when I am finished.  I am trying to analyze why I am not enjoying it so much.  It is not the repetition of the same stitch.  I quite like making french knots.  Possibly, it is because there is no room for spontaneity, I have already made all the decisions. Double Whipped Chain Stitch is such a nice looking stitch.  Thanks to  Sharon B  for the instructions.  The last time I tried this stitch I added a bead to the whipped part.  Beads are always good!  This time I just used regular embroidery thread.  It looks alright but I think I might add more spokes to this.

Even with its minor imperfections, this is a beautiful bloom! April guild challenge

Image
Purple and green are the colors for our April sinchie challenge.  My base is fabric, paper, and paint.  I drew on the leaf but then didn't know what to do next.  This morning I saw something done by Kim Thittichai.  She loves all things glitter as much as I do!  I was inspired to get out my glitter and transfer foil.  It has made the five-year-old inside me very happy.  Now what else can I glitter? 'Some days you need to create your own sunshine.'  This quote speaks to me of being proactive.  I like to think of myself as proactive.  I am not one to sit around waiting for someone to make me happy.    I choose to fill my days with beauty.  Even when dealing with serious life issues there are ways to create joy and sunshine.

Stitching on my crazy quilt block for April.  I am not too sure about the placement of that lace.  It is probably going to have to move.  I can hardly believe that it is April and this is the last month that I have anything definite planned for my CQJP.  I am leaning towards doing a CQ book.  I think someone else participating in the project is doing a book and I really like that idea. I decided to try the Whipped Spoke stitch on handmade paper.  I haven't work on it for a while.  Obviously, not every stitch will work well on paper.  I think this one works alright.  Part of the circle I whipped three times but could not continue all the way around because the thread would not pass.  I didn't want to rip the paper.  I don't mind that it is uneven.  I kind of like that you can see the spoke stitches.  Thanks to Sharon B at  Pintangle  for the great instructions.
