Not quite a fail

Image
This is a little paper/fabric collage experiment I have had kicking around for years.  Every once in a while I pull it out to see if I can fix it.  I am happy with the sky, mostly.  The water is definitely getting closer but still not quite right.  I am pleased that I haven't given up on it and  I think I can pull back from the brink of the trash bin.  Once I do get it right I can use for a class I will be teaching at a senior's center.  I think they will have fun with it. Journal Week #25

Image
Keep your eyes on the stars and your feet on the ground.  That is the quote of this week.  It is decent enough advice but not a particularly inspiring quote.  My journal page isn't particularly inspiring either but I had fun doing it.  I could probably push it further and turn it into something more interesting but ...

Work in Progress Wednesday

This is my crazy quilt journal project for May and June.  Life was too busy to consider making two blocks these last two months.  I am trying to come up with a title for this piece.  Any suggestions?  I used some shells that I collected while in New Zealand earlier this year and I want this quilt to be a tribute to that trip.  I actually think that there should be a few more shells added but I am calling it done for now. I heart Macro

Nothing new here but I never tire of macro flower shots.  We went to see the Georgia O'Keefe exhibit at the AGO last week.  When we got to the room with her flower paintings my hubby commented: "Oh, I see why you like her so much, her paintings are just like your photography."  Nice! Leaves, leaves, leaves

Image
I am working on two projects that require leaves.  Here are some of the mixed media leaves I have created so far.  I have a 'thing' for leaves.  Yesterday's blog post was about what soothes my soul.  I mentioned art in that post art but not leaves.  My Mom used to tell me that when I was a small baby she would set me by a window so that I could see the leaves on our tree.  She said I would sit there for hours contentedly watching the leaves.  To this day I can look a window and see the wind moving the leaves and feel all the stress leave my body. Journal week #24

Image
The quote this week is 'Coffee soothes the soul and is always the answer'.  I didn't agree with this quote and changed it to art.  Art does sooth my soul but it isn't always the answer so I left that part off.  I used a coloring page as my background.

I am so happy with my bead journal project for May/June.  This mixed media kaleidoscope will likely end up in a quilt but it is finished for now. Funky Flowers

Image
I love how one idea can lead to another and another.  I am working on a workshop sample for a fibre class I will be doing with some seniors next month.  We won't have any sewing machines available.  Also,  I expect there will be limited abilities due to dementia, stroke or other age related issues.  I am planning to do a collage style class and we will be using a watered down white glue to hold our pieces together.  My sample isn't ready to be shown as yet.  However, when I have some leftover glue mixture I try to use it up.  Pictured above are some fibre/yarn 'flowers' I have created with that glue mixture.  They will be going into an altered book that I am planning. Journal Week #23

Image
A great attitude becomes a great day which becomes a great month which becomes a great year which becomes a great life.  That is the quote this week.  I believe attitude is super important.  Learning to be happy and have a good attitude in any circumstance is a fabulous skill to have.  Not always easy though. I made a colour copy of a bead journal I particularly like and used that as my journal page.  I love two for one!  Getting extra mileage out of a piece is good in my books.

Work in Progress Wednesday

I am loving my stitch a day project for June.  I have utilised some of my hand dyed fabric, a paper cut out (kirigami) and holographic threads.  It kind of looks like spirograph to me.  I wish I was better able to capture the sparkle of the threads.  They just make my heart sing! Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
Laced Herringbone Square Stitch  directions are provided by  Sharon B .  She really is the best.  I tried this stitch on handmade paper.  It looks very different from Sharon's done on fabric.   Possibly doing it smaller and using ribbon floss would have yielded similar results.  Nevertheless, I think it looks kind of cool.  All the stitches I have done on handmade paper are done on single sheets of paper.  Eventually, I will have enough to put them into an interesting book form.

I heart Macro

Years ago a friend showed me her very expensive macro lens.  Something went off inside me.  I knew I had to get a macro lens.  It took me a while to save for it but it was worth it.  It is my most used lens.  I am amazed and captivated by the beauty and detail in our world. May/June bead journal

Image
I am happy with the way this bead journal is coming along.  I excuse myself from producing two bead journals for May and June.  I really do like to stay on top of projects but I don't want to rush this one.  There is still a bit more to do on this one, almost there! Journal Week #22

Image
The quote this week is 'Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes, and having fun.'  I love this quote but feel a lot more could be added to it.  What would you add to the list? I used pastel pencils to draw these calla lilies.  I have never considered drawing to be a strong skill of mine but these aren't half bad.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
Possibly I have posted about this little quilt previously.  If I did I probably called it finished when in reality it still needed a binding.  Proper quilt bindings are just not my thing so sometimes/most times I struggle with that bit.  I am super pleased with the idea I came up with for this quilt.  This quilt is fabric and paper and paints so using paper as the binding makes perfect sense.  I used unryo/mulberry paper and glued it.  Unryo is fibrous, strong and flexible when wet.  I love it when an idea works out so well! Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
I thought the  Knotted Cable Chain  would look good on my under the sea crazy quilt.  I am not thrilled with the way it turned out.  I should know better than to stitch a new stitch to me when I am tired.  I actually do know better but I wanted to get it done.  Oh well, there is a lot happening on this crazy quilt so not likely anyone will notice the not great looking stitches.  Thanks to  Sharon B  for the instructions.

Some water droplets seem appropriate on this rainy day.  The sunshiny yellow adds some cheer to the day and that makes this photo perfect for today. I am linking with http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca https://mersad-photography.blogspot.ca

Stitch a day

Image
Stitching with silk ribbon is such a treat!  I really enjoyed my stitch a day project for May.  I am still really enjoying this fun tree shape.  I am taking a break from it for my June project but will definitely be returning to it again. I am linking with https://kathysquilts.blogspot.ca/

Crazy Quilt Project

Image
Some progress has been made on my May Crazy Quilt Project.  It is now June and there is still a lot to do.  This will be a two-month project.  I will not stress about it.  This about enjoying the process.  Adding more color and beads is next on the agenda. I am linking with  http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.ca/   Nina has some terrific thoughts on art and creativity this week!

Journal prompt week 21

Interrupt anxiety with gratitude, empathy, and mindfulness.  That is the quote for this week.  I think I would add and art making.  For me, art making is a balm for my soul.  I forget all troubles when I am creating.  I printed this quote on one of my favorite photos.  It is going to look good in my journal!
