Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
This is the start of another journal page about one of my dogs.  We definitely have a flower theme happening.  That makes me think of my sweet Trinity girl.  She has been the only female dog we have had.  She was definitely not your average golden retriever.  She was quite the character and loved to tear up my garden.  Her digging only ever hastened the inevitable destruction. I am not much of a gardener but do love flowers.  I will have to be satisfied with my stitched gardens. I am linking to https://www.quiltfabrication.com/

Slow Stitching Sunday

Image
I seem to be jumping about with my stitching projects.  The dog theme is pretty obvious with this one.  I plan to add it to my dog themed journal.  It represents our dog which was a cocker spaniel.  Oh, how I loved him.  This is just the outline and I plan to fill it in with stitching and beads.  I don't know if that will capture his fluffiness or not.  We will see, maybe I won't try too hard for that. Taking it further

Image
This piece started life as a sweater.  I purchased it at a thrift store already shrunk and felted.  I felted it further and then needle felted in some loose flowers.  I am now adding some stitches to it.  So far just some silk ribbon French knots.  The wool is quite lovely to stitch into but I do have to be aware of the gaps that were formed when it was knit.   I am linking to http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com/ https://www.create-with-joy.com/2021/03/friendship-friday-blog-hop-475.html http://www.aquariannart.com/2021/03/manicure-black-and-gold-nail-stickers.html

I have a lovely collection of beaded fabrics.  Mostly the fabric came from saris I collected from thrift stores.  Sometimes they seem too precious to cut up but what else am I going to do with them!  I decided to piece some together to make a cover for a box/book.  Love it!  Beads make me happy.  I totally enjoy stitching beads but I don't have to be the one who stitches them to enjoy them.  Now that the cover is finished I need to continue working on the pages inside.  The pages are made from interesting papers I have created over the years.  They need to be bound together in some way.  Pondering that.  My macro flower photos give me a lot of joy.   A number of them have been published in  Flora Fiction  an online magazine.  Check out this lovely magazine and consider submitting! I am linking to http://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/ http://jaipurgardening.blogspot.com/

Slow Stitching Sunday

Farley's dog tag is attached.  I am not totally sure if I really like the way I have attached it or not.  I will continue to consider it.  There is still more stitching to do.  There aren't enough beads on it yet.  I definitely made progress on this piece and I am really liking it.  I am excited to do more dog tag stitched journal pages.  One for each of the beautiful souls that enriched my life.  Dogs are the best. The first dog that came into my life was Lady.  A furry ball of energy attacked my shorts and pulled them down.  I was only 4 or 5.  I remember vividly being humiliated and not understanding why my parents didn't help me.  Of course, they were splitting a gut with laughter.  I am sure I would have done the same in their place.  Even though it was a bit of a rough start, I loved Lady.   I am linking to https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/

This slow stitching piece has now turned into a project.  I have added a dog tag.  This is going to be a page in a fabric journal dedicated to my precious pups. I have saved many dog tags from my dear pets over the years.  This one belonged to Baily.  He was a rescue and we are not completely sure what mix of breeds he was.  He definitely had a beagle in him.    There is still more stitching to do.  The big fabric bead I created and added on the left side seems to work but needs something.  This is a fun way for me to honour the beautiful dogs that have been in my life.  It was four years ago when in New Zealand that I captured this lovely flower.  That trip was to celebrate our 30th anniversary.  We saw so much beauty on that trip.  Oh, how I long to travel again! I am linking to http://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/ http://jaipurgardening.blogspot.com/

Slow Stitching Sunday

I have started working on my Remember Me challenge piece for the San Fransisco School of Needlework and Design.  I felted some funky yarns onto a wool base.  I have stitched on the smooth gold bullion that was provided in the trinket pack.  I have placed an old dog tag on this piece and I am not sure that I like it.   I think possibly with more stitching the heart-shaped dog tag will look better.  I would like this piece to be about my sweet Farley who has been gone for five years.  He was perfect.  His sweet and gentle nature was typical of a golden retriever.  I am linking to https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/

Still Experimenting

Image
I am pleased with the acrylic skin that I created.  I have been auditioning different backgrounds for it.  I am leaning towards using this one.  It is three sheer fabrics that I have stitched together.  I think the colour combination is good.  Once I adhere this mandala to the fabric will add a bit of beading.   I am linking to https://www.create-with-joy.com/2021/03/friendship-friday-blog-hop-473.html http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com/

A bare block, aw the possibilities!  I really enjoyed using up all the little scraps I had saved.  Now, what to do with this block?  I am leaning towards encrusting it with beads and stitches.  I know big surprise.  But, then what.  It seems just one such block is not terribly useful.  Do I really want to take on a bigger project and do more of this sort of block?  Maybe.  Not sure.   I am linking to https://www.quiltfabrication.com/ https://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.com/

Kaleidoscope

Image
For anyone that could use a pop of colour, here you go.  I used Kaleidoscope Kreator to create this one.  I think I need to print this one out.

I can get lost in the beautiful intricacies of a flower.  I am so grateful I have a fabulous lens that allows me to get some really interesting shots.  I submitted a number of floral images to  Flora Fiction  an online magazine and just found out they were accepted.  Yay!  So fun when someone likes my work well enough to publish it! Slow Stitching Sunday

Image
I have added some stitches to this one over the past week.  There is still no real plan for this and I think that is why I am enjoying it so much.  I will let the stitches take me where they please!  I have gone through my stash and found some threads that I have hand-dyed and I am enjoying using them.  I want this piece to encrusted with stitches and likely some beads as well. Experimentation

Image
I am playing around with an idea right now.  I have painted this mandala onto a plastic sheet protector.  I used dimensional fabric paint as acrylic skins need to not be flimsy.  If they are too thin they will just rip.  I plan to apply this to fabric and then, of course, add some beads and stitch.  I hope my idea works out.  I love the way this looks so far!   I am linking to https://www.create-with-joy.com/2021/03/friendship-friday-blog-hop-472.html   http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com/

My mandala is really taking shape.  I have added some funky trinkets that are in my stash.  Like many things, I have had them for years.  The intention to use them has always been there and now I have made that a reality.  I am leaning towards calling this one done as the surface design I created is quite busy.    I am linking to https://www.quiltfabrication.com/ https://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.com/

Stitching Treasures

Image
Oh, such fun to go to the mail and find this little packet of treasures!  I signed up for the San Fransisco School of Needlework and Design's newest challenge.  It is called When This You See Remember Me and you can find details here  https://sfneedleworkanddesign.org/rules-and-entry-form/?mc_cid=52b6dba315&mc_eid=2b4088f0f6   They are providing these lovely sparkly bits to use in our pieces.  I am eager to try out these things.  I have purchased bullion in the past but have yet to actually use it.  Now is the perfect time to do so!

Taken at the wrecking yard.  The colour and texture are so pleasing to me.  Most of my photos from the wrecking yard have a more abstract quality.  I love the abstracts that I create but I also love the simplicity of this one.  Doesn't it make you wonder how that hammer got there?  How long has it been there?   I am linking to https://www.create-with-joy.com/2021/02/inspire-me-monday-week-476.html http://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/
