Journal Week #48

Image
The prompt this week was circles.  Funny, I did circles last week.  Oh well, I love circles so not a problem.  This week I used a paste paper technique to create the background and then added the circles, lines and quote with a permanent marker.  The quote says 'Our task must be to free ourselves by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty."  Einstein

Work in Progress Wednesday

My bead journal for November is completed.  I absolutely love it.  Honestly, there was no way to go wrong with this one.  The Paula Nadelstern fabric base is so gorgeous.  I definitely need to make this into a bigger piece. A photo walk

Image
Admittedly this is not a terribly interesting image but I am sharing it anyway.  It was a lovely afternoon for a walk with a dear friend.  One of those afternoons I will tuck away in my memory for years to come.  I am blessed to have this beautiful friend in my life.  We have shared many photo opportunities together and they are all the sweeter for having shared them her. Additions to my odd quilt

Image
I am working on a self portrait quilt, it is a bit odd/unique.  You can see it  here .  It has taken me a while to figure out the 'hair'.  My middle son, Jeremy was home last weekend and we were talking about this piece.  I feel like I should give him some design credit as our discussion really helped me!  He is so smart!  I have attached charms, broken jewelry, a key etc. to chains and will stitch these to the piece.  This 'hair' will go up and out from the mask.  Kind of wild and funky. Journal Prompt #47

Image
The prompt this week was opposites.  I created this journal page with circles cut from colourful monoprints.  The middle circles I copied in black and white and applied them.  The quote I chose says 'Most people think of success and failure as opposites, but they both are products of the same process.' Roger von Oech.

Work in Progress Wednesday

This is my stitch a day project for November.  I think most people are doing that challenge as one piece.  I would lose interest in the project if it was just one piece.  I am working on six-inch squares in each month.  That way these square might work with my 'sinchies' that I am doing for our guild challenge.  They may not work but at least I have the option of putting them all together since they are the same size.  The base of this piece is a fabric and I added some transfer foil to it.   If you click on the photo you might be able to see the sheen of the foil better. Artist in Residence

Image
I have been selected as the Artist in Residence for the Ayr Library 2018.  How sweet it is to have this goal come to fruition. I hope it leads to more opportunities to be an artist in residence!  This residency will centre around creating an altered book with participation from the community.   Region of Waterloo Library Announces 2018 Artist-in-Residence Introducing me Brochure The opening reception is Feb. 10, 2018, and I hope to see lots of family and friends there!
