Work in Progress Wednesday

I love playing with watercolour.  This butterfly could probably use more work but I am ready to move on.  Or am I?  I am thinking about what I learned from this.  Can I incorporate any of it into my stitched work?  Mandala painting?  At the very least it was an enjoyable exercise and I am good with that.

Slow Stitching Sunday

I did some stitching on this wool-based mandala.  I loved adding the beads.  I definitely want to add some more.  I used some wool tapestry yarn on this and I am not fond of it.  I think the same thing every time I use it.  It is time for me to pass along the collection of wool thread that I have.  I am never happy with the way it looks.  When I have a supply I feel obligated to use it so best to send it on its way.   The colours I have used on this mandala aren't really singing to me.  I will ponder what is needed to make this better.  It does look good on the background I placed it on for the photo but that is not where it will ultimately live.   I am linking to https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/

I like playing with paper.  Well, I like playing with most art supplies.  It amazes me how fast time flies when I am creating.  I created this simple paper quilt to share with my sweet seniors this afternoon.  I made a more complicated one but we only have one hour together.  No way we can do complicated in just one hour.   I am trying to be positive.  I am waiting for some responses.  Waiting so long.  I LIKE people who respond quickly as I generally try to do.  I like to think that I am a patient person.   I like dreaming.  Dreams of grandeur where I am a world-class artist.  Dreams of being discovered.  I am not too old to dream!  I am dreaming of being accepted for an artist-in-residence program in the South France.  I almost have the application ready to send. I like linking with  Lee Anna  and the gang of grateful gals.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Earlier this summer I went through my stash of fabric experiments.  Obviously, not all experiments are successful.  Some that were successful were too small to do much with them.  I cut them into 6.5 inch squares.  Why that size?  Because I have a ruler that size.  It made it easy.  I have sewn all the squares together into a scroll.  Why a scroll and not a quilt?  I am not exactly sure.  I suppose I could still turn them into a small quilt but that doesn't really appeal to me.   I love the idea of a scroll and have been working on a number of them.  I like the idea of rolling up these scrolls as they don't take a lot of space.  I like the idea of hanging them on a wall to display.  I can picture a wall filled with them!

Mandala Monday

Image
The central part of this mandala is finished and I am pleased with it.  I created a painted background for it.  I had hoped it would work but it does not.  I am puzzled as to what to try next.   I wonder if a solid background would be better.  It is almost September and I really wanted all the mandalas for the banners done by now.  It is an unrealistic goal that I have set for myself.  It is also unnecessary and I need to relax!

I am not the sort of person who spends a lot of time looking back.  I have been working on some art proposals this week and that has required me to look back through my art.  There was a time I might have crinched.  I like that I have to come to a place where I can accept my art, the good, the bad and the ugly.  It has all been a process of learning.  I like that I am feeling more confident about my art.  I like that I am loving some of it. I know I have mentioned Librivox in a previous post.  But I really, really like it!  I just learned about an older book written by the artist Kandinsky.  I was thinking of purchasing it but decided to look at Librivox first.  It is there and I can listen to it for free.  Yay! I like that I am getting to do an art program with my sweet seniors today.  We are going to do a Kandinsky inspired tree.  I think it is fun and cheerful.  I hope they enjoy it.  They are such good ...

I can't stop creating my floofy book pages.  I love using up my scraps in this way.  It is so easy to do while watching some TV in the evening.  It doesn't require a lot of thought so is great to do when I am not at my best.  They are only the base and a lot will be added to them.  They are scraps so if I totally mess up there is no great loss.  It is all very freeing and great for my creativity.   I am trying to be aware of the width of each of these pages.  It will make it easier to sew them all together if they are close in size.  The length isn't an issue though.  I need to create more narrow ones like these to be able to make a decent sized scroll.
