Some more of the amazing street art that we saw in Playa del Carmen.  I am so grateful that we got to take this trip before all the craziness of the pandemic happened.  We saw some truly amazing street art as well as ate wonderful food.  I am linking to http://image-in-ing.blogspot.com

Slow Stitching Sunday

Image
I joined a stitching challenge on Facebook.  I have pondered whether I should post my sample.  It looks like a child did it.  The samples from others are absolutely art.  They have put a lot of time and effort into their samples.  I admit that I put minimal time into mine.  Others seem to have a lot of spare time during this pandemic but I have less.  I adore having my granddaughter and it is time-consuming so my stitching time is limited. I used a wool thread that I have had for a long time and wanted to try it.  I stitched it on wool fabric.  Stitching with all wool is quite pleasant and I enjoyed it.  The stitching is so chunky so it went quickly.  I don't particularly like it but I can see that this wool could be useful in some circumstances. Playing

Image
Can you tell I have been hanging around with my two-year-old granddaughter?  Wow, this is pink!  I did not intend for it to be SO pink.  I played with permanent markers and rubbing alcohol to create this.  There are a number of things I like about this technique.  I like the way the colours bleed and blend.  I like that the alcohol evaporates fairly quickly so it doesn't take forever to dry.  I like that you get unexpected things.  Even though there is an abundance of pink I still think this piece can be useful.  I will do some beading and embroidering on it and that should break up the pink for me. Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
I have sandwiched a paper kirigami piece between two sheer fabrics and machine stitched it all together.  I have also added some dimensional fabric paint.  I plan to add hand stitching and beading to it.  Another in my mandala series. Slow Stitching Sunday

Image
I haven't made a lot of progress on my bead journal.  I thought I would have more stitching time this past week but my son and granddaughter moved in with us.  My DIL is a nurse and they felt it would be safer if they stayed with us.  My son is a student right now and still has online classes so needs help to care for his daughter.  It is a complete joy to have them here.  Oh so tiring and my stitching time is very limited.  I am glad I can help them and build special memories. In Process

Image
I got the order of these photos wrong.  The first block is the one in the middle.  It is my Aunt Pat's embroidery.  I have been working some of her unfinished blocks that I inherited.  I am trying to keep some of her stitching still visible. My next step is in the top photo.  I machine stitched one some bits and pieces of lace.  A very kind friend at work shared with her scraps as she is trying to clear out her studio.  They were perfect to add to this. Yesterday I got out the paints and had it.  I love getting messy!  Now the block is ready to stitch into.  This is the third block I have done this way.  I am treating them all like wild gardens.  I am not sure if I will stitch all of them together or have them be individual pieces.  I have a LOT more of Aunt Pat's blocks so I could turn this into a big piece.  I don't have to decide right now. Mandala Meditation

Happy first day of spring!  My daily mandala meditations are helping to keep me calm in this world of craziness!  Stay well everyone and keep creating. I am linking to http://mybijoulifeonline.com

Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
I have been adding more stitches to this piece.  I feel like the two ribbon roses are too large and might be a bit distracting.  I may have to remove them or add more.  Still to be decided.  This piece is colourful and fun and a joy to stitch.  I have so many beautiful and creative things to keep myself busy.  I am grateful. Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
Sharon B challenges us with the  Pistil Stitch  this week.  This is a stitch that I have used frequently so wanted to try something new with it.  So, of course, I added beads tot he stitch.  It was a bit tricky to get the french knot at the end of the beads but I kept at it.

More fabulous street art from Playa del Carmen.  I am ever so grateful that we got to take this trip before the coronavirus made havoc with travel plans.  Such crazy times!  I am also really grateful for my creativity as it helps to keep me mentally healthy in these crazy times. Slow Stitching Sunday

Image
I am quite happy with this piece now.  I am leaning towards calling it finished.  Well, the fun part is finished.  I am not totally sure how I will put it together and bind it.  That is always a challenge for me.  I am eager to do this sort of piece again.  I was given a bag of laces last week.  Bits and pieces but ever so pretty and they will work really well for this technique.  I may have time to play with that idea in the coming weeks.  I just learned that the theatre where I work is closed until April 6.  My job is only part-time so it is a big hardship for me.  It isn't actually more stitching time for me as I get to stitch at my desk.  I will likely do more messy sorts of things. I am really grateful that I got to do my trunk show in Fergus this past week.  It was well received and when someone in the audiences gasps or says wow, that feels really good.  A lot of ladies told me after the show that I was inspiring.  That also feels really good. Another finish

Image
Yay! Me!  Another beaded mandala piece is complete.  Finishes feel so satisfying.  I have had a lovely quiet week which has afforded me the time to get a long list of little things done.  I still have a stack of mandala pieces that need to be finished.  I will keep plodding away at that stack and keep adding to the stack.  I know I will be able to have a solo show with these pieces someday. Work in Progress Wednesday

Oh, finishes feel so good.  I added a lot to these blocks and a button border.  It is rather busy but cheerful.  I really like the button border even though it isn't perfectly straight.  It is actually really close to straight for me. I am doing a trunk show this evening and am happy to have this quilt to add to it.  Should be fun! I am linking to https://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.com/ https://www.quiltfabrication.com/

More street art from Playa del Carmen, Mexico.  There were many murals throughout the city.  What a joy to see art being appreciated on a large scale.  I was disappointed to learn that many times the artists were not compensated for their work.  They were given the materials to use so that is at least something. Slow Stitching Sunday

Image
I took this piece with me on my holidays.  Good thing it packed up small and I didn't take a lot of threads as I didn't do any stitching on it.  I made up for that now that I have returned.  I have learned a couple of new stitches and added them.  I love the way this is progressing.  It is a very happy piece. Needle Felting

Image
Wow, it has been quite a while since I have done any needle felting.  Kind of sad that it felt like a work out for me!  I had a lovely scrap of wool fabric laying on my desk and it called to me to become a leaf.  I love the shape of a Burr Oak leaf.  I have an altered book project that this leaf will be put into.  I may need to add some embroidery and or beading to it first though. Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
This is the very beginning of my March Bead Journal project.  It is, of course, a mandala.  I decided to use one of my mandala stencils on this one.  I have only previously used these stencils on my hand drawn mandalas.  It should be interesting to see where this takes me.  I am linking to https://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.com/ https://www.quiltfabrication.com/

Mandala Meditation

Image
I wonder if people are getting bored with my mandala meditations.  I am not getting bored with them.  This one I finished last fall and submitted it to San Francisco School of Needlework for their  Healing and Reflection Challenge .  It is interesting to me that there were a number of people who stitched mandalas for this challenge.  There is a lot of interesting stitching at this link so do check it out.

I have just returned from Mexico where there was some fabulous street art.   We enjoyed a guided tour to see much art that is not on the usual path.  We would not have seen this otherwise.  Our guide was not terribly informative but he was pleasant. I am linking to http://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/
