Slow Stitching Sunday

Image
I made some progress on this wool mandala.  Oh, how I wish could capture the gleam of the thread, transfer foil and sequins!  It is all matching.  Wonderful gleaming hologram!  So me!  More slow stitching needs to be added.  Seems like a good project to work on this afternoon.  The house will be quiet.   We often have family dinners on Sundays but not today.  The family was here yesterday.  With five grandchildren and three dogs in the mix, it was not a quiet day.  Gloriously busy with little ones and conversations.   I will head off to my yoga class shortly.  When I return I settle in for a cosy afternoon of stitching.  I love my life!  I like dogs!  I like having a whole pack of them!  I have three guests with me this week.  They are all sweet as can be.  Two of them are not playful and Banksy will just leave them alone.  Scotia, on the left likes to play and Banksy will accommodate!  My sweet hubby took all of them for a walk this morning.  Amazingly, it all went smoothly! I like that I am not a penguin!  I know that is silly but I was looking at a photo of penguins the other day and couldn't help but think I am so grateful that I don't have to get around the way they do!  There is always something to be grateful for and that one made me smile. We watched the first episode of Paradise last night.  It hooked us in right away.  Sterling K. Brown is an amazing actor.  He was fantastic in This Is Us and I see he will not disappoint in Paradise. I like that I have a date with my granddaughter for tomorrow night.  We are going to Disney on Ice with her ...

I don't post about my journals very often.  But I had to show off this pop-up page!  I love the way it turned out.  I saw the idea on Pinterest and had to give it a try.  My niece and I worked our way through it the last time she was here.  I love pop-ups and have a large collection of pop-up books.  My grandchildren enjoy looking through them and reading them.  Fun! I have added the word joy throughout the page but it is a bit hard to see that.  This journal page feels like an explosion of joy to me.  Let's have more joy in this world!

Mandala Monday

Image
I designed this mandala and printed it on vellum.  It is so relaxing for me to colour in my own designs.  I am not interested in colouring in someone else's designs.  That doesn't feel like art to me.   The colouring on the vellum is lovely.  I use markers and they glide so smoothly.  Colouring my mandalas is a way for me to create when I don't feel all that creative.  I only have to choose colour.  Sometimes that is the hardest decision I want to make.

Slow Stitching Sunday

I have been having fun adding more circles to this piece.  I have been watching Ariane Zurcher on YouTube while stitching.  She is a left-handed stitcher and her instructions make more sense to me than right-handed.  That doesn't surprise me.  My Mom told me she could see I was going to be left-handed when I was young.  So she always put the crayon closer to my right hand and I would use it.  Ultimately, I am ambidextrous but I think left-handed if that is possible. Ariane does really interesting mixed-media stitching.  She inspired me to think outside of the box.  I am considering how to make this piece dimensional rather than flat.  Such fun!   I like having my sweet hubby home after being away for a couple of days.  He doesn't have to travel for work very often.  I like it when he goes away though.  It is my opportunity to not cook.  I always try to have some leftovers available.  I often treat myself to having chips and dip for dinner at least once!  I know, I know I shouldn't eat so poorly!  But it is a fun treat.  I had so many leftovers available this time that I did not imbibe.  Next time! Hubby and I are big Star Trek fans.  I just learned that a new series is starting tomorrow.  I am excited to watch it!  Michelle Yeoh was amazing in Star Trek Discovery.  Here is the write-up Star Trek: Section 31   Tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets, Emperor Philippa Georgiou ( Michelle Yeoh) also must face the sins of her past. I just finished watching the Miss Marple series on Brit Box.  I love that an older woman was being po...

I love this tree shape.  It seems so happy to me.  I have used it numerous times in my art but I have not tired of it.  I plan to use this shape each month this year.  I was gifted with some silk samples and plan to use them as the base each month.  I have 13 of them so enough for a cover as well.  This will be in a book form. I used the silk 'paper' technique and then cut out the tree from it.  I then stitched it to the silk base and added beading.  There isn't much contrast in this piece.  I didn't think about that at all as I put it together.  I need to get better at working with contrast.  Still, I like my happy little tree.
