Water

Image
Does this look watery?  I am not totally sure but I do like it.  This piece is really textured.  I started with some gesso on fabric.  I then added a layer of paper towel that had lots of colour as I had used it to clean up.  There was lonely blob of green colour that stood out too much so I added more green ink.  I also added some shimmer with Pearl Ex.  Some stitching or beading could be interesting on this piece but I think it would be absolutely miserable to stitch through it. Still circling

Image
I have had a lovely quiet summer.  It has been restful.  I have enjoyed many an hour sitting on my deck, in the sunshine creating mandalas.  At least my version of mandalas.  They have been mostly created upon coffee filters which are super cheap and very durable.  It is quite likely that some of them will end up in stitch/beaded projects.

Oh big surprise, another circle.  I have been playing with some of my mixed media supplies and created this with a stencil and Lumiere paint.  The shimmer of the Lumiere paint doesn't show up particularly well in this photograph.  I wonder if it would have looked better on black fabric.  Nevertheless, this is just the start.  Stitching and beading will be added.  When I get to that is another matter. Our past is not, as some fear, a series of events carved in stone that we must carry around for the rest of our lives... but a kaleidoscope of experiences that, when viewed through different lenses, can 'color' (change) how we see our present and future. Slow Stitching Sunday

Image
A while ago I was experimenting with oil pastels on fabric.  I created this cheerful little landscape but didn't know what else I would do with it.  Having finished my floral slow stitching piece I decided this would make an interesting base to stitch into.  I hand quilted on the black lines.  I have started using up some short bits of silk ribbon.  At this point, I think I will just stitch in the field areas but that may change as things progress.  There are no great plans other than to enjoy the stitching. Just surface treatments on this piece.  First I used a stencil.  I did not love all the white that remained so I added permanent markers and blended with rubbing alcohol.  That was definitely an improvement but I continued.  I added some silver/white dots with a pen and some glitter fabric paint.  These six-inch experiments are ever so interesting to me.  Will I take them further?  I almost always want to take things further but maybe I don't have to.  Maybe, I can just enjoy doing them and call that done. Mandala/kaleidoscope

Image
Coffee filter mandala/kaleidoscopes have endless possibilities.  I haven't counted how many of these I have created but I bet in the hundreds.  Coffee filters are cheap and very durable.  They are obviously not indestructible but they will take some stitching.  Markers and paint are not a problem at all.  There are many ways to take them further but do I have to?  What if I make them just for the pleasure of making?  Period, end of the sentence.

Here is my crazy quilt project for August finished.  I just can't stop myself from working in a circle form.  I remember being interviewed by my sister for a project she was doing about twenty years ago.  She asked me about my favourite shape.  Even back then it was the circle.  Somethings don't change, nor do they need to change.  I am linking to https://www.quiltfabrication.com/ https://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.com/ http://www.esthersquiltblog.com/

Slow Stitching

Image
It has been a while since I have posted about this piece.  I have thoroughly enjoyed stitching on this project.  I haven't added a significant amount since I lasted posted about it but I do think that it is now finished.  At least the slow stitching part is finished.  I am debating as to whether I should use it as a book page in a large book I am thinking of making or have it be a separate piece on its own.  I am eager to start another slow stitching piece.  It is so relaxing. Water

Image
Well, you would have thought that since my dear husband was away on his annual guys' camping trip this week I would have been more productive.  My weekly experiment only got tackled this morning.  I love that my fabric base is still wrinkly.  It is hand-dyed and I think the wrinkles add to the water feel I want.  I did some wire coiling which I haven't done for quite a while.  Also adding some 'gem' stones.  Nothing is actually attached at this point so it could change a little but I do like where this going.

Summer is a great time of explorations for me.  I have so much fun playing with different/messy techniques.  Here I worked with crayons.  It is a riot of colour and I can't wait to start stitching into it!  I am linking to http://www.esthersquiltblog.com/ https://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.com/ https://www.quiltfabrication.com/

Creativity is a lot like looking at the world through a kaleidoscope. You look at a set of elements, the same ones everyone else sees, but then reassemble those floating bits and pieces into an enticing new possibility. Rosabeth Moss Kanter I am linking to http://image-in-ing.blogspot.com

Water

Image
Still playing with my water experiments.  I pieced together some of my surface-treated fabrics and then collaged on top of that.  I used some of my silk paper, cellophane, sari silk, sheer fabric and some dyed cheesecloth.  Even with all of that, there seemed to be something missing so I added a piece of shell that I had coloured with alcohol inks.  These six-inch squares don't take a long time to create but ever so fun for me. I decided to play with making silk paper again.  This piece is fairly large for me sized at 22' x 26'.  I had fun adding odd bit of thread, yarns and something called angel wings.  A friend had given me the angel wings.  They are meant to be included when you make your own paper.  I think they are a flower petal, possibly.  Some of the colour ran and I quite like it.  It gives it a painterly effect.  I am wanting to add some stitching and possibly beading to this.  I plan to incorporate it into a large textile book.  I am linking to http://www.esthersquiltblog.com/ https://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.com/ https://www.quiltfabrication.com/

My dear sister recently bought  Dimensional Cloth  and recommended it to me.  I haven't purchased it yet but the cover reminded me of an experiment I tried years ago.  Using a polyester fabric I tied marbles into it.  I boiled it for I don't remember how long.  Once cooled and the marbles removed the cloth retained that shape.  Pretty cool.  I decided it was time to use that experiment and incorporated it into this week's water experiment.  Love the dimension! A spot of sunshine

Image
Yesterday was one of 'THOSE" days.  You know the kind that is frustrating, nothing goes smoothly.  I decided to stop trying.  I took myself outside to sit in the sunshine and play with a mandala.  Working in a circle form has me mesmerized these days, years.  Perfection is set aside and I doodle/draw happily.  Just what I needed.
