Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
This started out a bead journal page many years ago.  It was experimental, which I enjoyed but it didn't really go anywhere.  So  it languished in a box.  I am hesitant to let go of my creations even if they are not the most interesting.  I was taught to not be wasteful.  Plus, I tend to think that things can be redeemed/resurrected into something new. So for my last word of the month journal page I used this bead journal page and added the word HARMONY.  The music paper in the background seems fitting.  This all makes me think of the Tesla quote  The  heartbeats  of  man  are  part of the symphony  of the  Earth.  Would that we all lived in balance and harmony with each other. I still need to figure out a way to bind all these pages together.  Oh, and a cover for this journal.  But at least the pages are finished and I made it to the end of the year with this challenge to myself.  ...

Snowflake Journal

Image
Sometimes my art journals are just receptacles for art experiments.  I used clear contact paper to create the left page in the top photo.  I sandwiched small and large sequins and some sparkly thread between two sheets of contact paper.  I probably could have included some glitter and tinsel.  That would have looked good.  I will file that idea away for the future.  The right-hand page has a stitched snowflake, watercolour background, stickers and a layered snowflake painted with pearlescent paint.   The left page in the lower photo has a snowflake print that I created for a swap.  I added some stitching to it with sparkly thread.  Love sparkly thread!  The left side is a collection of interesting paper with stickers added.   I am linking to https://creativeartistemixedmedia.blogspot.com/ https://art-journal-journey.blogspot.com/ https://colorfuloptions.blogspot.com/2022/12/december-2022.html https://doubletroublecha...

Mandala Monday

Image
Here is another little mandala I have made in my handmade book.  It is sparkly and I hope it speaks joy to you! For my own edification here are some comments I received about my solo show. Dear Angela, thank you for all your work installing the mandalas on Friday! I walked into ThirdSpace this morning and my whole body lit up! The theme of the advent service today was JOY, and boy did the walls ever speak to us! What a gift! I know we had a Joy exhibit in early 2020, but this exhibit is a joyous second rendition! Love the many forms Joy has taken here, thank you Angela,,,this will bring beautiful feelings to all of us for many weeks! Bev My feelings exactly! I had to pick up something at Luther this morning and took a detour via the chapel because I couldn’t wait until tomorrow. The exhibit made my heart sing! And the installation.   Thank you so much!   I look forward to being with it more in the days ahead and to the engagement of many over the coming weeks. ...

Slow Stitching Sunday

This is my piece for the Bright Challenge with San Fransisco School of Needlework.  I often participate in their challenges and enjoy them.  The theme of bright is definitely in my wheelhouse.  The under water theme works well with brights.  I am enjoying using some of my hand dyed threads on this project.  I have stitched under water themes a number of times and never tire of it.  There are always new ideas and the textures created can so interesting.   I am linking to https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/

Years in the Making

Well, that was a lot of work!  For three hours I worked away with my husband and two others at hanging my solo show.  My husband is so amazing and supportive.  I couldn't have done it without him.  He thinks differently than I do and that is a good thing.  We bring balance to one another.  I created 400 paper mandalas for this show.  They are hanging at the 10-foot mark and the installation looks pretty impressive.   There were a lot of nice comments from the few people that stopped in to see us hanging the show.  One of the professors was very keenly interested and chatted for a while.  I have been invited to give a talk there but the details still need to be worked out.   There are over 60 stitched mandalas hanging in this show.  Also, three collaborative pieces are hanging.  I will have to return to get more photos.  We ran out of time as my husband had an engagement he needed to get to.  ...

LeeAnna  asks what is your favorite Christmas/ Hanuka cookie or treat....if you could go to a party which cookie would you reach for first? Do you make them or purchase them... I rarely eat cookies but I do love shortbread cookies.  I am not much of a baker so nope, I don't make them.  I also don't buy them because I just might eat them all and that would not be good!  So they are a very rare treat.  It has probably been a few years since I have had any.  It isn't like I don't get loads of other goodies at Christmas though.  Usually, I go more for the savoury types. I Like photography, macro photography to be specific.  I was looking for a photo in my files and came across this one.  Do you see the heart?  Isn't nature amazing! I didn't find the photo that I was specifically looking for but glad that this one came to me.   I also Like that tomorrow is the big day.  I will be installing my solo show!  It is pretty exci...

Work in Progress Wednesday

I have started working on my word of the month journal page for December.  Yay for me!  I stuck to this challenge for the whole year.  This page is a bit busy so the word is a little hard to see.  In the upper left, I have started the word harmony.  I am using Sadi which is used in gold work.  I have had this stuff for quite and while and never tried it.  I find it rather difficult.  It is so very fragile, unexpectedly so.  I am okay with the imperfection.  This is the first try after all.  I always learn from my experimentation and that is a good thing.  I am willing to try new things and post about them.  Some people are not willing to be that vulnerable but I am.  I hope it makes me more relatable!  I hope it helps to make others brave!
