Mandala Monday

Oh, the passionate colours of Valentine's Day.  I seem to be thinking about Valentine's a lot this year.  That is not usual for me.  But everyone can enjoy a little more love in their life!  May we all feel loved and supported!

Slow Stitching Sunday

My clean-up cloth is becoming full of texture and colour.  Oh my gosh!  I am having so much fun with this!  Over the years I have saved the tiniest of scraps.  Beautiful silks that I can't bare to toss.  A piece of painted and burned felt that the dog ripped apart, lower left.  He made a very interesting shape.  Some hand-painted fabrics and interesting yarns have also been attached.   Interesting embroidery stitches have been added.  I am using some of my hand-dyed threads.  Yum! It is all coming together but there is still a lot to do.  I have started picking out beads to add but must resist stitching them on just yet.  This is a giddy playground for my soul.   When this is finished it will be attached to a box lid.  The box houses some collages I have made.  Well, I am still making them.  If you are really interested you can see some of the collages on Instagram.  @angelagrasse I am l...

Art Journal

Image
This journal spread was in response to a line in a poem I had read.  'Whenever the trees are crying aloud'  This was a mixed media playground.  I used a hand-cut stencil, mask, texture medium, watercolour paint, acrylic paint and a touch of glitter.   I love reading poetry and finding just one line that stands out to me.  I have purchased old poetry books just so I could cut them up for those lines.  Or the whole poem, I have done that too.  Art journals are all about the play but having a deeper meaning is a goal of mine. I Like

For February 9 2023 .. since it's so close to V-day let's think about what we like about Valentines day. do you make a special cake or truffles for instance, or give cards, get cards, get chocolates, give gifts? Even if you don't have a mate you could send flowers to a best friend, or give a sweet heart necklace to your daughter, or call your mom... It's about love and showing it. If currently things aren't happy, then do you remember any previous V-day that you liked?  Anything you like about celebrating the love. I like Valentine's Day well enough but I don't need to celebrate it.  My sweet hubby has taken me to some really expensive restaurants over the years.  I enjoyed the meal but never feel it was worth the big bucks.  I guess I am a bit of a cheapskate!  Honestly, one of my best memories of Valentine's Day was when our children were really young.  We didn't have much extra money so my sweet man made two dinners.  One for the kids to eat ...

Work in Progress Wednesday

Another journal cover is finished and attached.  This journal houses 100 mandalas.  Most of them I have not posted here.  This blog would only have mandalas on it if I posted all that I have created.  It already has a lot so...  They are all painted and drawn mandalas.  Some of the beautiful and some of them are only okay.  I worked on them for l;kabout one year and it was time to call it done.   The stitching is done with some beautiful silk thread a friend gifted to me.  I am so blessed!  It is stitched on silk and then attached to an upholstery-weight fabric.  That gives it a nice sturdiness.

Mandala Monday

I have joined the #opusdailypractice on Instagram.  Some of the prompts have definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone.  That is definitely a good thing.  Today's prompt was right in my wheelhouse though and that is also a good thing.  The prompt for today is balance.  I decided that it was the perfect word for mandala intention.  It works on a number of levels.

Slow Stitching Sunday

I was going to say this project is finished.  Now that I am looking at the photo I see a small bare spot that needs some more seed stitches.  It will only take a few minutes to fill that area in.  This project worked up quite quickly.  At least the fun part of stitching it did.  I still have to decide just how I will attach it to my journal.   Covering journals and altered books with stitching isn't a new idea to me.  I have done a fair amount of it.  I haven't done it much on purchased sketchbooks/journals though.  I am having fun with this idea and will look for another one to do.  I will only consider more recent journals though.  There are a lot of old ones that I could do but I don't want to think about covering all of them.  That would not be fun.   I am linking to https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/
