 I have added some green thread to the yellow chain stitch.  That definitely improved this mandala.  I will now put it in the complete pile.  I do reserve the right to return to it in the future though.  For right now, I consider it finished.  I won't really know if any of these wool mandalas are complete until I put them all together into the end project.   It is hard to know how they will all look until it all comes together in the end.  Close enough is as good as it gets for right now.

 I would never call myself a watercolourist.  I would never presume to teach a watercolour class.  However, I do love to play with watercolours.  I love watching watercolours move and mix.  I love that they are not easily controlled.  They are playful and fun.   This watercolour journal is full of mandalas.  They are mainly watercolours but there is other media in them as well.  Sometimes I want a perfect round dot and that is more easily attained with acrylics.  At least for me, it is.  Possibly more accomplished watercolourist no a way of accomplishing that.  I am okay with knowing which media gets the job done the way I like it.

  I have started stitching another scroll.  Just a tiny one this time.  I have a fascination with using up tiny bits of fabric.  I was raised by parents who grew up during the Depression and they learned not to waste anything.  I guess they passed that along to me.  Anyway, I get a lot of pleasure in taking little bits of nothing and turning them into something beautiful.   I know it doesn't look like much just now.  I am hoping for a lovely afternoon of stitching.  I am hoping for lots of progress today.  It is a small project so it is possible to finish it quickly.   Except... Look at my dining room table!  Hubby left for his annual camping trip yesterday.  I went through my studio, tidied and put all my projects on the table.  Yesterday afternoon I worked on four of them.  Today I would like to stay focused on the tiny scroll but... LeeAnna   asks some interesting questions  Would you like being part of the group of competitors? Staying in the olympic village?  Meeting people from all over the world? I love that they are kind in competition, and  respect each other. Have you ever gone to view the Olympics? No, I would not like being in a group of competitors.  No, I would not like to stay in an Olympic Village.  Both of those things sound terrible to me.  Meeting people from all over the world would definitely be interesting to me.  But I picture that happening individually, not in a group setting.  I do not enjoy crowds and thus I have never been to an Olympic event.  That and the fact that I am not all that interested in sports in general.   I like playing with mixed media.  I had a visit from my niece this week and together we had an art play day.  So fun!  We happily splashed around gesso, glue and dye powder.  We had great conversa...

 This mixed-media piece has been hanging in my studio for years.  It started life as a hand embroidery piece passed down to me from my husband's aunt.  I have applied laces and paints to it thus making it my own.  I think she would be happy about that.   My niece was visiting and commented about how much she liked it.  I couldn't agree with her.  I knew it didn't feel done.  Since that visit, I have added some oil pastels to the roses on the right.  I like them so much better now.  I also added some blue pastels to the sky, which greatly helped.   Looking at this photo I can see more clearly what else needs to be done.  Not a lot.  It is getting ever so close to being finished in a way that I am pleased.  Yay!

 This mixed-media journal page features a mandala I created with Kaleidoscope Kreator.  I applied glass bead gel to the digital printout.  I love the way the mandala looks.  I am not loving the background.  It is getting better than it was but it is still not right.   Looking at the photo of it helps.   Looking at the image in black and white helps too.  I think I know what I need to do.

  Six stitches are all I managed for the month of July.  It doesn't seem like much.  There are so many stitches out there!  But not all of them appeal to me.  There was not enough room for one that I wanted to try.  I better start with that one for August.  This is a fun project and I like having all the stitches together on one project.  It is helpful to have a sampler like this to refer to it.
