I heart Macro

Image
I enjoy having flowers to photograph.  I always have an excuse to pick some up!  This time of year there is always a reason to get outside and enjoy the gardens as well. I am linking with http://mersad-photography.blogspot.ca http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca/

Playing with surface design

Image
Here is a corner of some silk that I printed/painted this week.  I was experimenting with Inktense blocks and some inks.  Sorry for the wrinkles, no time to iron!  I am pleased with the way the leaf turned out.  I think I will need to do some further experiments. Journal page

Image
Last year I was trying to follow a journal prompt challenge.  Doing a monochromatic page was suggested so I made a black and white copy of a fabric piece I had done.  Well, black and white derailed me.  I am all about color.  So I added color to the copy, which was kind of fun.  It works for a journal page.  Again, the quote is fabulous.  Gratitude is the open door to abundance.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
I think my bead journal for May is finished now.  If I do add anything further it will just be some small stitches done with silk thread.  I almost certain I won't add any more beads.  Yes, the beading is done. I am linking with http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/

Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
Buttonhole Wheel Cup is one that I learned from  Sharon B  a few years ago.  I have used this stitch many times since I learned it.  It is a great stitch.  Here I stitched it on handmade paper and added beads to it.  Okay, so technically it doesn't raise up into a cup formation.  Too bad, I love the way it looks.

Dyeing Fun!

Image
Oh my gosh!  I have so much fun with dyeing fabrics.  I haven't played like this for a while but I am delighted with my results.  The piece on the left is done on cotton with Dye-na-flo paints to create sunprints.  I used some bicycle gears to create the marks.  So fun!  The other pieces are silk.  Yummy! Journal Page #20

Wisdom begins in wonder.  Socrates.  The wonder of a small child is a beautiful thing.  I try to emulate children every chance I get!  I think I have stuck with this journal prompt program for so long because the quotes really resonate with me.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
I few weeks ago I did some fabric dyeing with my guild.  When it came time to take the fabric out of the dye and rinse it I couldn't part with dye remaining in the container.  I knew it wouldn't be good for dyeing more fabric but I felt confident it would work on paper.  I gave it a go and I love my stack of pretty papers.  I crumpled the paper to soak in the dye and that gave me some mottling, which I really like.  However, when uncrumpling the wet, dyed papers some of them ripped.  I learned that when you let them get to almost dry before uncrumpling you get less tearing. Last of the Butterflies

Image
My butterfly altered book is almost finished.  These are the last of my pretty creations to to be added.I had a lot of fun with this project.  Art and fun surely do go together! I am linking with http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.ca/

Balance is the journal prompt theme

Image
I paraphrased the quote to say 'To keep your balance keep moving'.  I definitely like to keep moving forward.  Yesterday I was disappointed to find out that I did not get the artist in residency that I had applied for.  Their loss, it was a really good idea.  Today, I am working on my altered books to submit to a show.  I am not about to be stuck in self pity about the residency.  I will keep joyfully making my art!

Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
I have made some progress on my May bead journal.  I added some silk ribbon embroidery and of course some more beads.  I was beyond excited last week when I found the motherload of silk ribbon at a thrift store.  I felt obliged to use some of it immediately to justify my purchase.  I am pleased with the way this piece is progressing. Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
Stitching on handmade paper again.  This is the Eastern Stitch thanks to Sharon B .  I am not sure that I have done it correctly.  It doesn't warrant more exploration though.

A bit more stitching

Image
I did this nature printing many years ago.  I added some silk thread stitching to it and showed it to a friend.  She loved it except for one thing.  She felt it was missing my usual sparkle.  I had to agree with her so I added a very subtle metallic thread.  It doesn't show up very well in this photo but it is there and I plan to add a bit more. Journal Page

Image
Another busy week and I was tempted to skip the journal prompt this week.  But, I really didn't want to as I think the quote should be in my journal and done is better than perfect in my book.   Not every journal page has to be a master piece!  'Art opens the closets, airs out the cellars and attics.  It brings healing.' is the quote by Julia Cameron.  I totally believe that.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
Here is the start of my bead journal for May.  The base is wool with needle felting.  I have attached a strip of rhinestones and a beaded spoon.  The small spoon I found a while back at a thrift store.  There was a bag of them for just a few dollars.  As soon as I saw them I knew I had to have them as a commentary went off in my head.  The commentary is about education, which is near and dear to my heart.  I will save it for another time though. Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
The Chain Shell stitch is explained by  Sharon B  for this week's Take a Stitch Tuesday.  I added it to this butterfly using Razzle Dazzle thread by Ricky Timms.  This is a simple stitch but I have not used it much.  So many stitches so little stitching time!

How can a flower not be beautiful?  It gives me so much pleasure to look at them up close. I am linking with http://www.mersad-photography.blogspot.ca/2016/04/sunset-over-city-through-my-lens-nr-39.html http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca/
