Work in Progress Wednesday

So many colourful circles were created by my granddaughter's kindergarten class.  The children were quite happy to participate in this project.  There were some spills but nothing major.  My granddaughter wants me to use one of the purple spots in the middle as the start for my mandala.  Of course, I want to do that for her! I am still pondering over how to start that mandala.  They are a bit small.  This fabric is about 3m long.  I know the right idea will come to me.  The show is one month away so I am hoping the right idea comes sooner rather than later!

Oh, boy is this mandala sparkly!  Just exactly what my soul needs today.  People that can't no for an answer, bullies and narcists come across everyone's path in life.  In the last few days, there have been two in my life.  What's with that!  I am generally pretty good at setting boundaries and keeping them.  And I did do that.  But now I feel the need to retreat into a place of sparkly goodness.  I could also use a hug.  I cherish the support that I have received from family and friends.  I really am blessed and will continue to think about those good things.

So much fun!  I am working on my challenge piece for the San Francisco School of Needlework's bright challenge.  I do love working with bright colours.  I am doing an underwater theme as I think that works really well for brights.  I am using some of my hand dyed threads and I am trying to incorporate some new stitches.  I want lots of texture in this one.  I have made a lot of progress in just one week.  There's nothing like a new project to get me excited! The prompt this week was for pumpkin recipes.  Sorry, I just don't have any.  I really don't use pumpkins.  I don't even carve a pumpkin for Halloween.  At least not now that the kids are grown. I did want to join  LeeAnna  and the gang to post about what I like though.  I took a few moments to look outside my kitchen window this morning.  My giant maple is shedding its yellow leaves right now.  Watching the leaves flutter down with the perfect blue sky backdrop was lovely.    To stand there and breathe deeply and enjoy the simple beauty was something I like very much!  I am a very simple woman. I like starting new projects.  Who doesn't?  This one is extra fun for me because I am using some of my hand-dyed threads.  They are bright and cheerful and perfect for this project.  I am enjoying using them. I also like that I persevered with hosting/boarding dogs.  This week has been busy with pups and they h...

I added some faux gems to the butterflies and now I am happy with this mandala.  It just needed a bit of bling.  I am sure bling doesn't make everyone happy but it does me.  I really want this piece to say joy.  That is almost always a goal for me.  I know there are artists who want to call out the injustices in this world and there certainly is a place for that.  Just not in my art world at this time.

The red and green make this one feel Christmasy to me.  Not necessarily a bad thing just a little out of the ordinary for me.   I think adding some black helped tone down the Christmas feeling a bit.  It also makes it feel more meditative for me.   You would think that if I was going to post a holiday-type mandala today of all days it would have been for Halloween.  Oh well!

I am working on this whole cloth crazy quilt again.  I saw the inspiration for this quilt in Kathy Shaw's book Crazy Quilting Volume 1:Beyond the Basics.  I had never seen a whole cloth crazy quilt prior to reading this book.  I have tried finding out more about them by searching with Google but there doesn't seem to be much out there.  I will do my best with the information I have.  I think I will add one more seam to this piece and then start filling in the sections with motifs.   I am linking to https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/
